WE aren't necessarily signing a max player. We could get a couple in the 7-8M range. The important point is that Ilyasova is horrible and, IINM, has two more years left on his contract.

How? Kanter has plenty of warts, but it's pretty unlikely the 18th pick in the draft is a difference-maker or any better than Kanter. Ilyasova is junk. Can someone please attempt to explain why the Jazz should pull the trigger on a trade like this?

If the Jazz can't get decent value for Kanter, hold onto him and see what happens this summer. Maybe the Jazz are able to sign someone else with the cap savings (from not acquiring Ilyasova), maybe Kanter comes around ans re-signs with the Jazz, maybe there's a sign-and-trade opportunity. Worst case scenario, the Jazz don't find anyone better to sign, Kanter accepts the QO and tells the Jazz he won't re-sign in 2016. The Jazz have another whole year to try to trade Kanter. For all those possible opportunities, the Jazz give up the 18th pick in the draft. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

[Getting Traded]

It's essentially trading Kanter for a late 1st-rounder plus taking on $8 million in salary for two years -- no way, Jose. Would be better just to get the pick and not take on the salary of a player who would not be part of the Jazz's future. Maybe add Novak to the mix and get a second pick, because you shed Novak's salary in addition to Enes's to offset Ilyasova. Then maybe I would consider it. Still have to pay Ilyasova in 2016-2017.
