Jazz Decades NBA Fantasy Draft

Submitted my votes to prodigy. Never too late to start offering bribes though...keep that in mind.

I'll wait until I hear from individuals before posting detailed explanations for everything. Some people might not want them because they fear influence over the voting poll. Until both people in the matchup say they want them I won't disclose my vote in the matchup (other than to prodigy) or my explanation.

PM me then.

Time to reveal the results..

SalmonHobo vs. Chad

The last one is surprising, Chad had a big advantage on the polls but both judges sided with SalmonHobo, but both had it very close, certainly closer than the public poll would indicate.

I'm curious. Who were the judges?

Since Cali and I voted in total unison I'm digging all the advantages that we got from anonymity here. :)

For the two matchups for which a detailed explanation was requested.

For the SalmonHobo v. Chad:

Hardest one to vote on in my mind. For me it come down to a question of Point guard play (for which Chad doesn't really have any back-up options) vs. Bench play (where Salmon Hobo's team is frankly kind of terrible since he located all his Jazz players on the bench).

I ultimately ended up voting for Salmon's team for a few of reasons:

1) 90's Shaq is significantly better than 70's Wilt. This would be especially true in a head to head matchup where Wilt was trying to keep his "no foul out" streak going.
2) I think in many ways Kobe would functionally negate a lot of Stockton's value if they had to play together. I just can't imagine Kobe submitting himself to that kind of offensive control.
3) Salmon's team has some pretty unreal ball-movement potential that I think would exploit some serious defensive weaknesses in Chad's frontcourt. Salmon's team isn't exactly running a defensive powerhouse in the frontcourt either but I think his team would leverage the offensive advantage better. And yes, I can't believe I'm citing ball movement as an advantage for Salmon when Chad is employing Stockton.

And come on, I have to vote for Fes at least once.

For Ben10 vs. Cyrone Torbin:

I spent way too much time analyzing each team (and some of these guys I needed to look up more in depth to be fair about it, like Walt Bellamy).

I suspect that Cyrone Torbin has the better team here, in particular his front court of Robinson and Moses is dominant. I'm sort of pissed about two things on his team: I give almost no credit for the Spencer Haywood pick given that he played a total of 34 games for the Jazz. That seems like a bit of a stretch to me to include him within the rules of the draft. Second, Jerry Sloan was a very good player, but that's an unconscionable selection for one of the very best players of the entire 1970s.

That leaves me in a quandry but I still have to go with Cyrone Torbin's team. And even that I question because I just happen to be one of the people who is most on the Moses Malone bandwagon. After voting this way I need to take a shower.

I'll let cali speak for himself. And I swear to god we didn't collaborate at all even though we were completely in line with one another.

Haha, I picked Sloan mainly due to the fact I didn't feel like looking anybody else up and he was a good defender. Also, I hate drafting the 70's because I feel like a good amount of them have over inflated stats due to lack of competition and are hard to judge compared to 80's,90's,etc. due to the inclusion of the 3pt line.

Alright, I did something a bit different to decide who gets my vote. I created dream teams on whatifsports.com using the player's best season from the time period in which they were chosen. I can go into further details about the process if people are interested. The team with the higher seed in prodigy's bracket got the home court advantage. I simulated the match-ups and got these results.

Ben10 vs. Cyrone Torbin (bold indicates home team)

Game 1: CT 102, Ben10 99
Game 2: CT 100, Ben10 95
Game 3: CT 124, Ben10 84
Game 4: CT 125, Ben10 93

Cyrone Torbin wins series 4-0, therefore got my vote.

NUMBERICA vs prodigy

Game 1: Prodigy 111, NB 102
Game 2: Prodigy 110, NB 107
Game 3: Prodigy 104, NB 95
Game 4: Prodigy 107, NB 95

Prodigy wins 4-0. Prodigy gets my vote.

Game 1: PKM 102, vslice 90
Game 2: vslice 106, PKM 86
Game 3: vslice 107, PKM 100
Game 4: PKM 90, vslice 81
Game 5: vslice 103, PKM 84
Game 6: vslice 111, PKM 102

vslice wins in 6. vslice gets my vote.

Game 4: Salmon 125, Chad 118 (OT)
