Jazz Defensive rankings

I'm hoping the Pacers continue to suck and they decide to blow it up and trade us George Hill.

I could see this as a real possibility. The one concern is that he is an unrestricted FA after next season.. Don't think DL gives up much value for someone we project to be a veteran backup and may only be here two to one-half seasons.

I mean why not? Because you have to consider opponents, pace, etc. So you have to look outside the 79 PPG number.

Sure, but I think his point stands. If the Jazz were able to keep teams to 79ppg over the course of the season we would have a historically good defensive team and we would be a top team in the league, no doubt. The 79ppg would be a very good indication that the other defensive metrics would also be good. It doesn't tell you exactly what those other numbers would be, but they couldn't be bad if we held teams to 79ppg.

Most likely no, never. To have such fluidity isn't just repetition starting age 24.. There is a talent there, honed through time. No if Gobert can have a decent hook shot to 6/8 feet that would be tops. if he can shoot FTs at 65% or more + learns how to become an aggressive roll player, thant he will go all the way up to 15ppg almost organically I think.

I didn't mean on Kareem's level. I realize that won't happen. I tried to find the closest Kareem hook shot I could. I don't think there is anyway Gobert is going to start making 15 foot baseline hook shots, but a baby sky hook would make the Gobert Favors combo an unstoppable force in today's NBA.

We'd have him for two seasons, and if he decides to leave in FA, Exum should be ready to take over by then. I think acquiring Hill would vastly improve the PG play this year and next year for relatively cheap (8 mill per). Hopefully he'd be willing to stay as Exum's future long term back up, but if not, having a legit PG through 2017 would still be worth it IMO. Him being a UFA relatively soon is part of what makes him acquirable, and his contract fits nicely with Exum's timetable of development.

Of course other defensive metrics would be good, nobody is doubting that. He literally said he needs no other information other than 79 PPG to know that the Jazz have the best defense. That is what's wrong and why you can't use PPG alone because that 79 PPG doesn't tell you that they played one of the worst offenses of all-time.

It really doesn't even matter. Jazz defense has been stellar we are all in agreement!

Well one and one-half considering you'd figure they'd see where they are around the trade deadline. And that also gives Exum just one more year of development.. definitely not set in stone that he "should" be ready after another year. Just don't see Dennis moving multiple future assets (first round picks, Lyles) for him. We will see what happens when the Pacers suck though, cause they will suck.

We have the second best point differential in the league at +14.6. All of the other top 8 teams in differential average over 100 ppg, yet we are #2 averaging 94 ppg. Competition so far is surely a factor, but this is pretty impressive.

Soooo the 79 PPG is not all you need?
Ya it is. So far 79 ppg is enough to tell me we have had one of the best defenses in the league so far.

Any game that I see the opponent score less than 80 points, I know we played fantastic defense. Without looking at anything else.
