I agree with this 100%. I think the 2019 cap space thing is overrated. If it were me, I would take a massive asset from some team looking to dump a contract that goes through 2019/20. See how much Memphis would give us if we took Parsons.
We have the entire roster signed through 2019/20 minus Exum and Favors (Bird Rights) and Rubio (Early Bird Rights in 2019). We won't go into the luxury this year adding a bad like Parsons because nobody is going to overspend on Favors or Exum. We might pay the luxury to keep Rubio in 2019/20, but that would be one season. We can afford that.
We aren't getting a superstar in 2019. I don't think PG is going to sign a one year deal in OKC then just up and decide to come to us next summer. So go get a draft pick that could be used to trade for a big name should they become disgruntled.
To eat Parsons' deal, we'd have to renounce Favors, Exum, Neto, and the Ungs, wouldn't we?
