What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

Ron Mexico is right. It could be done. If we renounced everybody, we would have around $25-26 and we would need $30. The early decisions would be declining Thabo and dumping Burks. They would have to be done soon.

So again we’d be about 5M away from being able to give George a max. Does anyone actually think that George is going to take that much under the max to come play in Utah with some kid who’s barely off his rookie year? And oh yeah, after there are strong indications he wants to be in LA and even stronger indications he may just do a 1/1 with OKC.

It’s beyond a pipe dream and therefore not easy as Ron stated.

If we dump Burks without taking salary back, we have the max for PG.

Will that happen? No, because I dont think PG is considering us.

Ron is right about how but I agree that its a pipe dream.

Why would a team take Burks into space when they could potentially get a much larger return taking other contracts into space? For example, Denver I'm sure is offering a first-rounder to take on Faried/Arthur and they are also both up this year.

Are you guys saying the Jazz would offer a first-rounder to dump this last year of Burks? Hell no.

We would know? Just like we knew if Hayward would want to sign here?

It's not always so clear.

DL would know wether the Jazz can even get a meeting. Is he even open to talking with the Jazz? Also, aside from Favors the Jazz have control of their assets. Udoh, Jerebko and Sefolosha are team options. They don’t have to take an action on them until/unless they make an offer. On Exum we have a few days to match an offer.

Tony Jones insists that’s not how any of this works but I don’t see why not...

Thabo's guarantee date is early, on like Monday, so we have to take action on that before anything really happens. Jonas and Ekpe we have a little wiggle room, their guarantee dates are July 9. Exum has a huge cap hold he can hang over our heads which really gives him leverage if we are pursuing anybody.

One big problem with PG13 signing with the Jazz is what happened to Durant when he signed with the team that beat him in the playoffs the year before? He is still getting **** for it. PG13 will get **** for signing with the team that beat him in the playoffs and he knows that.
PG would get 0 **** for signing with the Jazz because they beat him in the first round. Most anybody wouldn’t even know/remember. Durant getting **** had more to do with the fact that he was joining a super team that set the record for regular season wins that year. Him blowing a 3-1 lead against that team in the WCF was just icing on that **** cake. If anything, people would herald him as more heroic for not choosing the path of least resistance.

Let me clarify - I would only use our 2019 1st to dump Burks IF Paul George said he wanted to sign here.

Also, my idea of Burks, Bradley and 2019 1st for Deng and Kuzma is better than Denver's offer because LA is still left with Deng in the Denver scenario. If LA has Faired AND Deng, they cant get Kawhi, PG and LBJ. With my idea, they could have that dream with all 3. It all comes down to how much LA and SA value Kuzma. If they value him as a future star, my idea won't go. If they value him as a good starter but expendable for a star, my idea has merit.
