Jazz get a B+ for offseason moves

He didn't really dominate in Summer League though (except on the boards). Big Al is another tweener, and doesn't solve the Jazz's need for a big body with some defensive aptitude in the post. Like I said, taking their respective contracts into account (4 year rookie deal >> 3 years $42mil), I roll the dice on Cousins (again, depending on what the Jazz would have had to give up and take on). Most of the time I agree with the Jazz's conservative approach, but as we've seen with Deron, Sometimes you have to take a gamble.
Was it really a gamble to give up a 6th and 27th pick (and another one) to get a 3rd pick? Not on my court.

Utah didn't have picks to throw around, and they probably didn't want an injured Okur or AK.

In this case, I think that what Utah would have had to give up wouldn't have been worth it.

I'm still curious what contracts the Jazz would have had to take on to move up and get Cousins in the draft (I'd prefer him to Big Al). Had they been able to do that, the Boozer trade exception could have been used to get a new wing player and/or the money saved to re-sign Wes. I'd trade Raja, Big Al and Hayward for Wes, Cousins and change.

With that said, given what the Jazz had to work with (Boozer's defection, Wes's offer from the Blazers), the Jazz FO did a spectacular job this offseason. B+ seems appropriate.

Cousins sure did look good in the Summer League. Some questions were answered there.
I'm always curious what deals are on the table that are close, but never get done.

It's not like the Jazz didn't try to get Cousins. Every indication at the time of the draft was that he was the guy the Jazz wanted, and that they tried their pants off to move up and draft him. What can you do? It's hard to lament a missed opportunity when it was only a remote possibility to begin with. It's not as if there have been reports that said "Deal X was on the table and the Jazz turned it down."

Get over it.

Harsh for you.

With Boozer and Okur, we had no real inside. Despite weighing 265, Boozer was a finesse player, opting for jump shots. Okur stayed outside the paint offensively, rarely posting up.
Jefferson's inside game will change the way opponents have to defend us. That will greatly increase our open shots from outside the paint. He is way better than a tradeoff over Boozer. Hayward will be a very good offensive player, much better than Matthews. And, he'll have Raja Bell to show him defense. Raja + Hayward is also an upgrade over Matthews and Korver. Korver now is about as good as he's gonna get.
So, B+ sounds about right.

Bwhwhahahahahahahaha

Please refer to my edit of my last post.

Big Al is 25 and is one of 4 active guys in the NBA to have a season where he averaged 21 and 11. Cousins hasn't played a minute in the NBA and has been known to have attitude problems and you wanted to roll the dice with him and Sloan over a proven/young stud like Jefferson? Jefferson was born to play in a system like Jazz's. This is almost as good as you saying the Lopez twins would suck in the NBA.

Holy hell, archie FINALLY said something that makes sense.
