Why would Chicago do this? does boozer get more as a result of this than he would with straight signing?
Yes. The previous response may not have been clear to you if you're not already familiar with the topic, Harcher (not that I am familiar, actually, but...). Chicago can give more (and hence Boozer can get more) to a player acquired by trade than to one acquired through free agency alone. Years aside, I think they can give him 10% annual raises in the future, instead of just 8% raises.
