Jazz get TPE for Boozer

KOC made a shrewd move here. With that said, let's not forget what this really means as of right now: not only did we lose Booz, we also lost 2nd rounder. Not that 2nd rounders have much value, bit hey, thanks to the second rounder we had a few years back, we still have a decent starting PF now. Our starting and back-up centers are second rounder too. Hell, wasn't Booz himself second rounder also? So, before we begin tea bagging KOC, let's see what he does with the exception. Decent move to give up second rounder with a chance to use up the trade exception, but the whole point here is to use that exception and use it well. Otherwise we are just down a Booz and a second rounder now. I can't wait to see Jazz FO make up the ground.

First of all, you have to give up something in any trade. The 'conditional second rounder' is just a formality. Secondly, you wouldn't just trade a second round pick straight up for a 13 million dollar TPE if no players were involved? That TPE is worth far more than the 53rd pick in any draft.

Nothing shrewd about getting that TPE. It was practically automatic. Phoenix also got a TPE for Amare worth $16M. KOC would've been dumb or the other team's GM hated him for some reason if he couldn't get the other team to cooperate. The Bulls for their part got a 2nd rounder to go with Boozer instead of just signing him outright.

Has Boozer signed the contract yet? Now that James is out of the picture for Chicago, would it be better to frontload Boozer's deal with big extensions for Noah & Rose within the next few years? If so, that could give the Jazz up to a $17.4MM TPE (if my math is right). That would give us a few more options.

I believe the TPE is for Boozer's LAST year's salary, not for his NEXT year's salary.

This may have been posted, but it's pulled from John Lund's blog on 1280. A list of possible bigs for the Jazz where the TPE would work. Besides Bass at 4 mil, the Jazz should just look at those players that could fill a center spot. Honestly, everyone besides Murphy (Okur #2), Jefferson (Millsap #2) and Chandler (injured all the time) would be appealing and add something different to the lineup.

Tyson Chandler $11.7M
Marcin Gortat $5.85
Al Jefferson $12
Chris Kaman $10.4
Emeka Okafor $10.8
Joel Pryzbilla $6.8
Hasheem Thabeet $4.5M
Brandon Bass $4M
Troy Murphy $11.7M
Tyrus Thomas $4.7 2009 salary (Free agent)
Luis Scola $3.2M 2009 salary (Free agent)
