What's new

Jazz @ Hawks, Feb. 6th 7:30 EST

These are the type of games I mean with "small statement." We're still without a starter now--Hood--and a hobbled starter, Favors. I imagine small statement games to be against a team with a comparable record to ours, comparable level of play, a difficult but not mostly impossible matchup. High tier teams who aren't the Spurs or Warriors, in other words. With all our injuries it's actually difficult to predict how we'll do in these games. Upcoming small statement games include Boston, Clippers (sorta, Paul is out), and OKC. (Dallas on the road, considering their recent play, nears small statement imo.)

I agree. Not to mention it's a road game. I'd be stunned if we won the next three. We will lose one of them, definitely.

Our last game against a good team with a healthy roster was Cleveland. I would call that a statement game. We did win our last two games including a playoff team (albeit not a good one.) We did lose to the Griz and OKC which were disappointing but we also missing starters in both of those games. The OKC game was one of the most disapointing losses of the season because we were so close and most of us dislike them.

Pacers dont count as a good team? They 28-22 right now.

Haven't we had a bunch of statement games ????

Odd's are we will have an injured player or two in the playoff's. If we wish to make a "statement" we need to win some of these games with a short roster. There have been so few games this year where we have been totally healthy I see no reason to expect it to happen come post season. Maybe some of the players will play through the minor injuries but I'm not even sure that happens. The dynamics of the league certainly have changed since the Stockton and Malone days, maybe for the better, maybe not.

why do people care about the line? it says literally nothing, just how people tend to bet, and bookies trying to not lose money

TBH I have no idea. I never looked at it before, except ESPN shows it automatically on its app. Just interesting to get a feel for how other people think too.
