What's new

Jazz @ Hawks | Friday November 12th @ 5pm

The crazy thing is we're really not playing that well.
But for some inexplicable reason we just lock in.

...it's the minus Boozer factor! He was a turnover machine, forced shots and played turrible defense! Big Al doesn't turn the ball over, plays better defense and more of our other guys are stepping up to play big and contribute. But it's the minus Boozer factor for the most part!

So we didn't win the PF battle... but Evans played some really solid 6.5 minutes.

We have to find Evans minutes. I don't know how. But that kid should be at the top of the list for every foul trouble, struggling situation we have until Memo comes back.

Al Jefferson had 6 assists tonight. He had 8 for the season coming into this game. Anyone think he's beginning to learn the offense?

I just noticed too... he also ran a few pick and roll with Deron, which was so nice to see.

but if you watched the game, you would know he's still not kicking out enough when he's posting up. Instead he is so focused on beating his man with his post moves. The assists he got were mostly coming from being a bridge swinging the ball to the cutting man (Deron, CJ, AK, etc.) who was hitting the shots tonight. But it's a significant improvement over the past few games.

Now he just needs to learn to box out when the opposing team takes a shot and kick out when posting up.

Al is not expected to "kick out" everytime he posts up, anymore than Boozer was, or Memo is. The idea is that he should look for cutters (which he did) and "kick" it to the open man IF he is double-teamed. Otherwise, he is expected to score, if he can, like Boozer, the Paperboy, or anyone else on the team. You don't post up and get good position for the sole purpose of kicking it back out for a long jumpshot.

What I am saying is that he does not kick it back out when he does not have a good post position. Instead, he backs his way to force a shot up. Millsap posts up as well, but he does not force his way in, rather pass the ball back out and re-establish his position. When he does that, not only he's closer to the basket, but also makes the defense move, thus creating more space for himself to operate.

I was impressed with Evans even with limited minutes. He is great around the basket just like Milsap and can score effortlessly with his hops and length. We need to get him some of AK and Hayward's minutes and let him develop.
