Jazz Offseason Plan

My worry is I don't think you are getting Nic Batum (or someone of that talent tier) to come in and play Niang's role. We don't have a money advantage... need to have a role advantage.

That's a good point. Niang played 16 minutes a game last season, I think we likely cut 4 or 5 minutes off the 28 mpg that Joe played last year, we could also cut a couple of Royce's minutes and maybe one of Bogey's minutes and that would get us to 24 minutes a game that we could offer someone like Batum.

I really wish we would have just given the Favs deal to Jamychal Green and given him 20-25 minutes at the 4 and 5.

The roster construction is just a little wonky... I think if you can't move Favs I think one of JC or Bogey needs to be moved (assuming Mike is retained). To get a real impact I just think you have to move one of those pieces and swap it for someone that is better on defense.

Just listened to Tony Jones on the Bill Riley show. Sounds like Niang is really the only rotation guy that he doesDok n't expect to be back next season. Say's the Jazz feel like they are really close and don't need to make major changes, instead they just need to do some tweaking and refining to the roster. As far as the back end of the roster, Niang and Ilyasova not expected to be back and Matt Thomas could be gone as well, Morgan's chances of coming back are 50/50 at this point. Oni and Hughes both expected to be back, he didn't really mention Brantley, Forrest or Dok.
Dok has a guaranteed deal. Hughes and Brantley were two way players so if I understand it correctly that they and every other two way player in the league is a free agent. I don't know how much money of Oni or Hughes deal is guaranteed.

Oni is a team option, Hughes is guaranteed and was a first round draft pick. Trent Forrest will be someone they have to figure something out with. I know they, and Donovan, like him. I do as well. Here’s a breakdown.

Hughes was not a first round draft pick.

I listened to this. Didn't have much to add other than with regard to Matt Thomas he said "now that DL is gone Matt Thomas may not be back". Either the remaining front office folks are pining all the bad stuff on DL or this may have been another DL going rogue deal.

Every bad thing done was on Dennis it appears the past year. In all honesty, in his last year, Dennis did a lot of damage to the Jazz positioning the roster for improvements. Tony also said they’re really high on Hughes, he just needs to defend.

Andy Larsen on Checketts show said he thinks there's less than a 50% chance that Conley re-signs with the Jazz.
