Jazz Offseason Plan

Infection, to my mind, is kinda right here. The only one I remember trading was Favors for 2 seconds.
Yeah, but even then he wasn’t being used as an expiring (i.e. you take back a longer/more problematic contract that maybe has better talent because the other team wants the expiring salary). In this case NOP didn’t even send back salary.

Another thing I’ve noticed Tony Jones mention, is to watch what front office changes happen over “the next few months and year”. He’s said this a couple times, which leads me to believe the changes coming may take some time to unfold. Not sure what exactly those changes will be as we’ve all discussed but lately it’s seemed like Tony’s been more on the side of them not being eminent. Which is weird to me, I’d rather see them done sooner than later.

Expirings get you stuff when paired with picks or young players/prospects. We moved Rodney and Joe who were expiring for Jae one time.

expirings are the filler that makes deals possible. Can get you a guy who is on a long term deal but underperforming. Doesn’t happen often though because those deals look bad and GMs typically don’t do those deals. For example... before we decided to give away every second round pick to clear Ed Davis and TB I suggested we put them together and go get a guy who had 13M left on his deal that year and the following year... Thad young was the guy I suggested... said maybe you use him as a small ball 5 and a four next to Rudy when you need size. JazzFanz mostly scoffed... Young was used in this way and ended up having a pretty great year. But the view on an underperforming player is he’s washed or sucks.

It would require Quin to adjust a bit but giving up a few extra points when you give yourself an additional offensive advantage is okay... but pretending a guy can fill the same role as the DPOY and giving yourself no real offensive advantage is somehow way better I guess. Even if it zaps all flexibility in the playoffs.

“We need Fav to try extra hard to be Rudy and after talking to him, he sounds up to the task, so we’re good there.”

“We talked to Royce and let him know our expectation that he’ll guard the small guards, so we’re good.”

Perv.

You still coaching China’s figure skating?
Haha, no I quit to move back to beijing with my girlfriend. I'm getting my PhD and doing side work with random athletes. The Chinese Olympic teams are still on full quarantine, probably until after the Beijing winter Olympics. I might rejoin them after that, I have no interest in living like that.

The amount of butt hurt from you is comical. Yes, DM is special. No one said he isn't. Booker is special, too. Acting like it isn't close is just being a stupid homer.

Booker is going to have a Chip. DM, not so much. Pretty sure that is goal.
Because of Conley vs Paul and Rudy vs Ayton not because of Don vs Booker.

Respect Don for **** sake.

9.6 more PPG with a higher FG% and almost a better 3PT% than Booker’s FG% overall lol.

That high of a PPG difference is the same as Steph Curry and Jerami Grant in the regular season.

But yeah I’m delusional.
DM took more shots than Booker because Booker has CP3 to share the load. So the margins are not as big as you pretend them to be.

Took more shots and hit them with much better accuracy. What point are you trying to make?

The "margins" or "difference" is Paul being that much better than Mike.

I wasn't talking about CP3 and Mike. I agree CP3 is better than Mike, but you cannot just compare stats if you exclude the number of shots. Look I think DM is better than Booker but the margin is not huge like some people are saying. I will keep DM over both DL and DB for a few different reasons but the margin is not wide as some people claim.

I can't speak for everybody on here, but I know without a doubt that Donovan Mitchell is better than Devin Booker. I don't think he's a ton better, but he's better.

The amount of shots argument used against Don doesn't make any sense to me.

If Booker took as many shots as Don, his efficiency numbers wouldn't look good at all. People would ask - should he be shooting that much if Paul, Bridges, Payne, Crowder and others could take better, more open looks?

If Don took less shots, every single sane person would ask the question - if you are shooting that efficiently, why aren't you shooting more? Don is taking more shots for two reasons - #1 he's really good at shooting the ball and #2 we really don't have many teammates who are good at scoring come playoff time. Rudy, Royce, Favors and missing Mike can't score freely. Bojan is often covered up which leaves Clarkson.

So here’s the “plan” as best I can tell:

(1) “Err towards continuity” and try to run back the entire flawed core and cross our fingers Conley stays;
(2) draft poorly, likely someone that can’t play defense;
(3) give up a future pick to trade Derrick Favors, only to watch whomever we traded him to somehow immediately flip him for a pick (it was at this moment when I saw this happen with Ed Davis that I knew our FO was dumb)
(4) Sign some old, crusty vets to minimums, bring back all of our “developmental” guys;
(5) Bid against ourselves to re-sign Niang for an overpay;
(6) Go deep into the tax for a team that will never win a title;
(7) go full thermal-nuclear next summer and tear the building down when Don requests a trade after we lose before the conference finals.

Our big offseason addition will be Matt Thomas due to all of the development he did over the summer.

Did I miss anything?

I almost find myself hoping Conley leaves for nothing if for no other reason than it will force the FO to do something besides sit on one hand with a finger up the nose on the other hand.
