Jazz Offseason Plan

If we are looking to dump Bojan, Joe, or Royce to save money in order to bring back Mike, how can we be running it back for just a year?

It’s hard to tell what exactly is going to happen. There’s so many reports and rumors that conflict with one another vs the pathway ahead. Idk, maybe as was mentioned above Smith is okay with noise being out there for noise sakes. Maybe they’re just making all sorts of calls and deciding what sticks. There’s been multiple times where one rumor or report doesn’t make sense with another rumor, report, or line of thinking.

Any team who wants to trade a pick for Ingles is going to be a contender, so Ingles will be fine.
And the inverse is true, too: any team looking to unload Ingles for a pick doesn’t view itself as a contender.

And if we really sent out Ingles partly as a cost move, then this makes this last year’s cap **** up drastically worse and completely unnecessary for absolutely no benefit.

In a vacuum yes, moving Ingles is not a win-now move.

It’s possible we could package pick 30 and whatever pick we trade for to trade for another win-now player.

To me, this means we are laying out the foundation that anything is possible. It keeps all our options open. If we trade a wing or even sign and trade Mike, we all knew going into the draft and free agency that anything is possible.

I think Rudy and Don are both safe, but who knows if Mike walks.

I dont know. I will wait to see what the Jazz do.

If Ingles is serious about retiring from the NBA, I can see an argument for why you do a trade. Not saying I agree (because I dont, just run it back, but its not my money obv), but I get the route of doing proactive moves to help extend the Jazz's competitive window.

I’ve seen this Ingles retire idea a lot. Where does it come from? I’ve never seen him say he plans to retire, has he? If Joe won’t be here beyond this season, you should for sure try and get some value out of him.

I would hate for the Jazz to trade Ingles, but it does probably make the most sense. Of all the players rumored to be available he is probably the most appealing: great shooter, secondary playmaker, great locker room guy, and expiring contract. I would imagine any team in “win now” mode would want him.

The question is what could we get back for him.

I might get a little watery eyed, but if it makes us better that’s fine. Draft night will likely show us what the actual plan is. Because there’s some conflict in the reports and rumors as to whether we are trying to retool a bit, or continue all in with a giant tax bill and mostly this roster.

Even if he goes to a contender Joe likely would be pissed. His non-basketball life stuff makes it tough to move around… unless it’s an absolute haul (which I don’t see happening) to trade him for some cap flexibility and a pick is a ****** move on so many levels.
