Jazz Pre-Draft Camps and Workouts

Jazz at C:

Memo - injured, is good there but more comfortable at PF.
Koufos - sucks, more suited to PF - have him play backup minutes to both Millsap and AK.
Fes - He's a RFA. He may not be back. I hope he is even if he is a project. (as long as the price is right)

I think the Jazz definitely have a need here. It'd be nice if they could get more picks in this year's draft. There appear to be some pretty good players.

The Jazz, to me, may also have a need at the wings. Wes and CJ are nice. I like them both but are the two together starters on a championship caliber team? Unlikely. And AK's contract is up at the end of the year.

In no particular order (not including second draft nor players projected higher than #9):

Aldrich - maybe
Whiteside
Babbitt
George

And I'm reading good things about Al-Farouq

Yeah, I still like AK, but if trading him can get them another first round pick I'd like to grab one of the potentially really good tall wings: Babbitt, George, Al-Farouq, Johnson?

Yes. Both have started NBA games and shown great signs at points, including in the playoffs for Fes. What are you basing Whiteside on? The rigors of a Conference USA schedule?

A valid point in that Whiteside is still a mere college player.

However, both Kosta and Fess have proven to me that they don't belong in the league. Especially Kosta.

Might as well take a gamble on an athletic player that has shown great promise in college.

I'd rather draft Babbitt in the 1st and take a big or bigs like Pittman who played legit competition, has shown he can work his *** off to get into shape, and has an NBA ready body and size, or Jeff Foote in the 2nd round.

I watched that Whiteside video--ouch. He does have nice touch on his jumpshot and he is big and will probably grow bigger. but he is raw--Fess looks more comfortable with his back to the basket. No post moves, drops teh ball low, throws the ball at the rim just hoping it will go in. Double team confused him, he can dunk and he didn't drop passes. On defense marshall played a zone so Whitesied didn't really body up on anyone, the one time he did the double team came quickly to help him. His blocks came on help but he does elevate and block shots.

My impression is that he MIGHT be an NBA player--someday, but it is going to be 2 or 3 years. He might be Kwame Brown if he works hard.

When Marshall played NC Whiteside went 3-8, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 7 points.

Ed Davis had 7-14, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 19 points.

You think Fess and Kosta have much upside? What are you basing this on, Flash games?

I think Fess does have more upside due to his competitiveness and athleticism for his size. But even if he does, no one else really qualifies as athletic length on the team who can play both ends of the floor. I think the Jazz would like to have a player who can swing between the PF an C, like Cliff Robinson did for the Blazers in the 90s. I also don't think Okur can guard half the PFs in the league. To be honest, I'm not sure Millsap can guard the longer ones either, at least not without picking up fouls.
