Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

Allen’s athleticism was tested at the NBA Draft Combine on Thursday, and some of his numbers jumped off the sheets — literally.

Allen posted a lane agility time of 10.31 seconds. According to ESPN draft analyst Jonathon Givony, that’s the fifth-best mark in NBA Combine database history, dating back to 2000. He also had the second-best shuttle run time (3.4 seconds) in the combine and tied for the fourth-highest in both max vertical leap (40.5”) and standing vertical (32.5”) among those who worked out this year.

Strengths: Competitive, sometimes overly so shoorting guard with a pure shooting stroke and solid ability to attack the rim ... Underrated athlete with a 40.5 inch vertical (measured at Combine) ... Was Duke's big late game hero in their last NCAA title three years ago ... What can't be taken away from Allen is his career production and his willingness to sacrifice for his team ... As a player, Allen is a streaky guy who can score points in chunks from the perimeter when he’s dialed in ... At his best he is a knockdown shooter from distance, capable of catching fire. especially if he’s not accounted for ... Looks to maneuver around hard closeouts ... He has the ability to put the ball on the floor and create some offense, and is pretty good at scoring on the move without the ball too ... Solid leaper who is capable of playing above the rim in space, and with adequate body control … Has some good natural ability, and when focused he can shoot well whether stationary or off a screen or curl, and is relatively comfortable creating for himself and his teammates … Pretty decent pick and roll player with a willingness to feed bigs on their way to the rim … Not a selfish player, will put his body on the line on both ends, and is pretty adept at taking charges … Generally puts in good effort on the court, improved his activity level with each passing season … Had to embrace a “villain” persona, assumed a leadership role on a young team in his last season, and there is something to be said about how he adjusted his mindset and role playing with basically a new cast of players in each of his seasons at Duke … A 80+% FT shooter throughout college career ...

At pick 21...I will definitely take it.

In the bright side, 6-1 and 6-4 isn’t as good as 6-4 and 6-3, and yes. Stockton and Horny, were two very proven studs, and Allen hasn’t proven anything yet, but Allen will come off the bench and who knows how many mins he will play this year. Also, Mitchell and Rubio are the same size as Mitchell and Allen. That got us to the second round of the playoffs.

I guess we just have to hope Lindsay can make a deal with Denver every four years, cuz outside of those moves, it's really just been **** in the draft.

In the bright side, 6-1 and 6-4 isn’t as good as 6-4 and 6-3, and yes. That's the thing. Size will effect the lineups they can and can't use. Allen is slow laterally which hurts too.

Greyson can't guard most 1's or several 2's. His offense isn't the problem. Defense is my worry.

Aside from this disappointing pick, are we really just going to “run it back” at this point? I hope not. A significant move has to be made between this offseason and next offseason to take this team to another level. Bringing back this exact same team isn’t going to beat the Warriors/Rockets/pending Lebron landing spot. You can’t plan for when the Warriors run out of gas, you have to try and win now and take a chance now when you have the cap flexibility you have before 3 years is gone and Donovan is on a max contract which takes away all flexibility.

Local radio/Locke talked about Allen a lot and I got the feeling it was coming unfortunatly. Now you have media/Dennis sounding like they’re going to try and bring back the same team. That’s just doesn’t cut it if you’re going to take that next step. Once Donovan is on that max contract (which he fully will deserve, and I want him to get it) you lose cap flexibility and you become the Wizards or Portland stuck in the middle with no financial flexibility. Time to make a bold move Dennis. The Favors/Gobert lineup can win some ball games but it isn’t beating Houston or GS in a 7 game series.

If allen doesn't see the court it will not be because he's too short - it will be because he's not good enough. It seems as if you understand little about the game of basketball.

Anyway, this is the type of pick the team makes thinking that he'll be able to play in a lot of different lineups, specifically because of his offensive versatility.
