Jazz select Isaiah Collier at pick 29

I still can't believe this dude sat until 29. He's a pitbull. He played on a team where the only other player who was a solid, dependable volume scorer was Boogie Ellis (Kobe Johnson sucked). Give Collier some scorers and he's going to make them look good as well as score easy buckets himself.

Also, noone talks about his high basketball IQ. We have a dude who can run point, get assists and drive to the basket. And we have D-Wade there to give him advice - their games aren't identical but both love/loved to drive to the hoop and get contact.

I mean anyone can score 20 if they have enough shots. Collier is going to struggle to score his rookie year. I think it will take a couple years before he is a quality rotation player (outside of trying to lose).

He drives well but his style of bully ball might not translate given his lack of length and lack of ability to rise up in the paint

This is a great point. He never at any point was set up for success. He was up against it on a really bad team.

Minnesota is going sorely regret taking Dilly over Collier. The more I study the more dumbfounded I am he slipped that far.

Yeah I would think even if the Jazz are seriously tanking they like to use the Stars for these kind of olayers.

Yes but if you do a deep dive into the numbers he’s way better shooter than a bunch of guys that went into the lottery. He was a 34% shooter from 3 in college. Could he swing that up to 36-37% I don’t know but it’s very possible nice to finally have a young prospect where his natural position is PG. I think he just needs a few mechanical fixes and he’ll be fine.

On that not, I’ve heard he fell in the draft due to not shooting well which is super confusing because we saw guys like Castle, Holland, Buzelis, Salaun and others go much higher while not just being worse shooters, far and away worse shooters. It really isn’t close. So I don’t think you should be nitpicking at his shooting

The encouraging thing was he improved throughout the year to where he was shooting 39% the last couple months of the season.

I still remember all the scouting reports coming out saying Mitchell was inconsistent with his shot and he came out hitting shots at a great rate as if he had always been a knock down shooter. Maybe Collier will do something similar.

Mitchell also proved it during workouts and rose.

Makes sense why he fell if he was killing workouts and proved he can shoot.
