Jazz Select Olivier Hanlan

Why is this stickied exactly? Seems to me trading Favors for Davis is bigger news than this.

One thing I noticed from his box scores is he EITHER scores a lot or he gets assists - he seems to have trouble doing both during most of his games while at BC.

I like this pick. Probably means the end of Neto.
Neto hasn't improved his shooting much, has he? Can't hit on every pick. Besides, Neto was selected for his potential in a different system.

I hate the way the NBA treats intl players. There should be a time limit on rights. If a player isn't brought over by the team that drafted him in 4 years, he should be an UFA.

That's not really fair to the team that drafted them. A lot of times it's the players choice not to come over. Maybe make them a restricted FA that way the team that drafted them has the right to match if they decide to come over.

BC fan here. Watched Hanlan all 3 years in the college and the kid was quite often the best player on the court. I cannot understate how awful the supporting cast he had was... especially last season. They were laughably bad but he played out of his mind and average over 21 ppg in ACC play despite everyone in the gym knowing he was the guy who was gonna get the ball.

Offensively, he can do it all. Great at drawing fouls/finishing around the rim, immensely improved mid-range game, and a nice stroke from beyond the arc. Not a freak athlete, but he's crafty and has a very quick first step and a get euro step in transition. Underrated passer; would have had a bunch more assists if his teammates could hit open shots.

On the defensive side of the ball, he needs work. I give him a bit of a pass because he was asked to play 35+ min a game and be the only offensive threat, so I think he tended to rest a bit on defense. It'll be interesting to see how he functions in a scaled back role.

I'm not going to pretend to be all too aware of your guard situation, but I think that a player of his talent at #42 could be a steal for you guys.

From 2 weeks ago in the draftees thread.

Wow! No way he is Berger then Delon wright before they play any games. Delon is bigger a better defender passer and playmaker. As far as I can see the only thing he does better then Delon is shoot and Delon is already proven that he's improving his shot.

Man I really like this pick up, he seems like a great person and I love that he speaks French. Can't wait to see him play!

Welcome on the board and thanks for the input. I hope you stick around and we might make a Jazz fan out you.

I watched the press conference, and it turns out Olivier speaks french.

That could be some sort of positive I suppose. Him and Rudy could form a friendship or something. Make Rudy a little more comfortable.

He's wearing Clark's old number too.

It's not a popular opinion, I know! Delon had an immeasurably more talented surrounding cast at Utah, and I'm definitely a tough grader of 23 y/o PG's who can't shoot. Hanlan's a classic big fish in a small pond story. not the easiest to evaluate. But he's been consistent, and could transition to the league easier than expected.
