What's new

Jazz shopping Al Jefferson?

Despite being a little lacking in the britches, Pau Gasol - as a basketball player - is ten times what Jefferson is. I think he'd be a tremendous fit here, basketball-wise.

Contract-wise and age-wise, though? Holy **** no. Also, again, Gasol is a great complementary player, but if you're hoping for any kind of leadership, you can forget it. At his age, that is something you'd seriously hope for.

Unless they feel Memo is healthy to play a full season and Kanter can play some solid back-up minutes, I don't think Jefferson is dealt. He is the only one of any of them that can play both C and PF.

Good post and all true. The only problem is with the condensed schedule, between the 4 of them, realistically, I think you're looking at 25-30 missed games this season.

Jefferson played all 82 last season; but I doubt we'll be this lucky again this season. Will probably missed a half dozen games with various minor injuries
Memo is coming off almost an entire year lost and is 30+. He's bound to miss some time.
Kanter has barely played any competitive ball over the last couple of years and might be in line for some extended D-League time if he struggles early or even if he doesn't.
I think Favors will play the most games out of all of them; but not necessarily the most minutes.

I'd love for them to pick up a low cost vet like Pryzbilla or Jeff Foster as Favors and Kanter develop their game; but I wouldn't hold my breath on either one of them. The reality is they'll probably pick up another Elson-like guy off the scrap heap. Definitely need another body though.
Another body at PF/C? You are crazy. In all of this you left out both Millsap and Evans. So we have Kanter, Favors, Jefferson, Okur, Millsap, and Evans already on the roster. That is 6 guys for 2 spots. Rumor is they are also talking to AK who can also play PF. We should be looking for PG's, SG's and SF's more than anything. While using our excess of bigs to get a quality SF or young PG should be our main priority. Adding another big body to this roster is pointless (Unless it's Howard but that ain't happenin.)

Granger is obviously a better shooter and is bigger but Iggy is better at every other part of the game. To me, our biggest need is defense so I would take Iggy over Granger all day. Plus I think Iggy would be a good player for Burks to learn from.
I think our biggest need is shooting. Iggy does nothing to help that.

I have very little interest in Iggy on this roster. Only way a team should want Iggy is if they have a dead eye shooter at SG or SF to play alongside him. We don't.

Isn't Hayward supposed to be that player? We have some hope for shooting (Hayward, Miles, Okur, etc.) Is there really any hope on defense right now? Especially perimeter defense. Maybe we could get Korver back too for Miles.

Exactly.

We need defense and better rebounding.

Exactly. Hayward was one of the top 3 pt shooters in the entire league last year and everyone acts like he can't shoot anything longer than a layup. He is a very solid shooter, and will likely only get better.

I definitely doubt we'll have four all-stars as well. Six teams in NBA history have had four all-stars in the same year, three Celts teams, the Lakers with Kobe and Shaq, the recent Pistons team, and a Sixers team in the 80's. If we do, I'd love it. But the chances are so extremely slim.

You can never have enough shooters. Iggy is a good perimeter defender, but does he ever shut down the top players?

Ok what I gathered from this thread is we need shooting, rebounding, and defense :) Perhaps that's why we are rated 23 of 28 in the power rankings.
