Exceptions don’t prove the rule. If that were the case, nothing would ever be the concern because there is always an exception.
While both are good passing big man, Sabonis is extremely good at finishing around the basket and rebounding which are two question area for Flip. I agree that if he’s good he’s good, but the track record is that he’s not in these key areas. Flip’s lack of length is evident on the court.
Additionally, as great as a player as Sabonis is I think we all realize his drawbacks. It’s his defense and specifically his defensive length that holds him back. It would be like saying any diminutive player will be fine because Chris Paul is tiny. Just doesn’t work that way. There are great undersized players at every position, but being undersized will always be a concern nonetheless.
