Speaking of wingspan, it appears the Jazz will have 3 players in the bottom 10-15 of the league (depending who makes it this season in the NBA) in wingspan minus height: Svi, Flip, and Lauri. If you add Isaiah and Keyonte, that adds 2 more in the bottom 50-60, with Mills just a touch behind.

There’s no way in hell the average hight for a sf is 6-11 and if this was the 90’s 6-11 for a c is small, maybe!! It’s not now. The average high is one inch more that’s it.

You do know that Sabonis‘s wingspan is 6-11 right? They both have similar skill sets. If if he’s good he’s good. I don’t care what his wingspan is.
Exceptions don’t prove the rule. If that were the case, nothing would ever be the concern because there is always an exception.
While both are good passing big man, Sabonis is extremely good at finishing around the basket and rebounding which are two question area for Flip. I agree that if he’s good he’s good, but the track record is that he’s not in these key areas. Flip’s lack of length is evident on the court.
Additionally, as great as a player as Sabonis is I think we all realize his drawbacks. It’s his defense and specifically his defensive length that holds him back. It would be like saying any diminutive player will be fine because Chris Paul is tiny. Just doesn’t work that way. There are great undersized players at every position, but being undersized will always be a concern nonetheless.

Lol if you’re looking at a few summer league games then I see how you come to this conclusion he was a good rebounder in college. Rebounding numbers translates well to the pro’s. Summer league is a convoluted mess. While Sabonis and Filip have similar skill sets they play different positions. Sabonis is more of an inside player while Kyle is more on the perimeter with better guard skills. If he progresses like I hope he does, I envision a front court of Kessler, Filipowski, and Markkanen and Filipowski won’t be inside much at all other than when he’s moved to center vs other teams bench for a few minutes here and there.
You bringing up Sabonis’s flaws is laughable.
He’s still allstar caliber and you’d crap yourself if he came here. Everyone has flaws
He was a below average rebounder compared to other Centers in college, that is just factual. Summer league had zero consideration when I call him a poor rebounder.
The point was not to neg Sabonis, quite the opposite. The point was that Sabonis is exceptional despite his flaws. He is able to overcome his flaws because he is an exceptionally good performer in certain areas despite his physical limitations. If Flip was an elite rim finisher and rebounder, it would not bother me as much. But he is not. If a player is deficient in one area, no matter what it is, it is a concern. And yet there is always going to be someone that overcame those concerns. That does not mean that concerns do not exist. If a concerns should be overlooked because there happens to be another player, who by your own definition doesn't even play the same position, than there wouldn't be concerns. If you choose to think this way, then Flip and every other prospect is flawless with no concerns. You can always find an exception to the rule.

i'm just glad he can pass. he's a second rounder, if he starts at all he will be exceeding his draft position, it's a win for us. having said that, i'd much rather play flip than collins. sorry john, if you can't play PF, you won't fit on the team.
Let's see. In comparison to other drafted centers from the NCAA this year Flip was:
A worse rebounder than Edey & Clingan (no surprise)
About the same level of rebounder as Ware
Better (in some cases, much better) than Missi, Holmes, Ighodaro, and Bona
I think he'll be OK (not great) as a rebounder.
I used tankathon to compare to other prospects historically which has him slightly below average. That's probably be about where I expect him. I have bigger concerns with him than rebounding though....I just mentioned rebounding because that is one of the ways Sabonis provides exceedingly plus value.
Personally, I think his ability to provide big man value is a critical question he'll have to answer. His skill level may allow him to play as the 4, and that is part of his value, but his skillset is exceedingly more value at either position if he has the capabilities of a an actual C. If he doesn't provide the value that you would expect to get from a 7 footer, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a 7 footer in the first place. But he can still stick around in this league being below average in the "big man" areas as long as his skill level is high enough. IMO better comparison than Sabonis would be the obvious one, Olynyk. If he can get to KO's level of play that would be an absolute steal.
I like Flip and think he was a great value pick....but it's only fair to call a concern a concern. Reed was easily my #1 guy this year, for example, but I would also say that his size is a valid concern.
