If OKC had done something like this, we would all be wondering why Ainge didn't think of it.

One underrated benefit to this trade is people can now cheer for the Cavs in this year's playoffs without anybody here throwing a hissy fit and calling them traitors.

Right. After thinking through this I really don’t know how opening up that flexibility actually helps them so whatever (they can’t trade ‘30 in any scenario, so they either have ‘26 and ‘28 OR ‘25, ‘27, and ‘29 [basically]).

2031 is a long way away, but the odds are pretty low imho that the cavs picks end up lower than 26 for at least 2 of the 3 picks we traded.

At the very least, the perceived value is excellent. That means the pick holds HIGH value for at least 3 of the next 6 years.

The only bummer about this is that we now know for a fact that we won't be the accommodating team in any Butler, Beal, Middleton swaps. We probably aren't taking the picks we just traded back in compensation. . .Takes a little of the drama away.

Also the Suns are in purgatory. They put their cards on the table, everyone can see them, and they still think the bluff is going to work

They have dug a very deep hole. The only way out is trading Devin Booker. And even then, they will have to eat Durant and now likely Butler money through the end of the 2028 season.

We got the less risky part of the deal tho. Say 27 and 29 both end up being like the 15th pick... Means both Utah and Minny or Cavs picks are in the lotto. We limited our downside.

Honestly, they are going to be drafting 5 year seniors with those picks to fill out the bench. It wouldn't surprise me to see them turn those late 1sts into multiple early 2nds if they can. They are going to prioritize experience over potential.

Jazz could very well end up with the 6 pick this year. They could've traded that plus these 3 picks for an actual star or trade up. Instead they got a pick 6 years from now. It's impossible to say if that's a good trade. It's just moving assets. We'll see.

The PHX pick will have more market value in a trade than those 3 picks bundled together, and one of them has to be used this year, with a roster already half composed of rookie contracts. Unless you’re heavily invested in the record of the SLC Stars, this is a non-issue.
