Jazz to actively pursue Paul Millsap this offseason, per Spencer Checketts

K, just checking. I agree about the fit thing, but I don't think age or even salary are as much a consideration. I'm the conductor of the Sign Carroll train.

But let's just say Millsap is down to re-sign provided he gets paid and starts. And let's say you can get Russell at 4 and the Knicks are down to trade that for Favors. And let's say Carroll is down to sign as well (which would be conceivable in this scenario since I believe the Knicks can absorb Favors' salary). Is Favors suddenly so irreplaceable?

A lot of caveats, I know. Anyway, w/e.

Favs is not replacement by PSap. PSap is always will be a way undersized PF. Hard to see him fitting in with this team, cuz he is not a SF either.

Did you miss the part where the Jazz get a bunch of really nice **** that would make them better now AND in the future? Whatever, it doesn't matter. This is probably rubbish anyway.

To reiterate, I wouldn't trade Favors just to trade him. He's an important piece to what the Jazz are and will/could be. But he's not untradable and the only scenario that makes the least bit of sense in the Jazz's hypothetical pursuit of Millsap is the Jazz trading Favors. It's far fetched to make all of the pieces work where it's a net positive for the Jazz, but it's not impossible that it could be a good series of moves.

With the order of the draft and free agency, I wouldn't **** with it.

I am against reconstructed marriages. If you've got divorced, you have to carry on.

Yeah that whole lebron going back to Cleveland thing seems to be a total fail.

There was two parts to the idea.

It isn't simply trade favors for porzingas and go from there..... It's trade favors for porzingas AND pick up paul millsap.

The question becomes is favors > millsap and porzingas? Or, is favors/gobert > millsap/porz/Gobert?

I think it's interesting and should be considered

Where were u in the other thread... This is what I was trying to convey but everyone was all "why would we just give up on favors for a stooopid darft pik".

Not saying id do it but the idea has some merit if DL thinks Porzingis is a star who would be a better fit long term.

To me Millsap is a bench player on a contender, like a 6th man. He just can't be a starter on a contending playoff team.
Seriously?

Millsap led the 60-win conference finalist Hawks in minutes, points, rebounds and steals per game, was second in blocks per game and fourth in assists per game. He was second among all NBA PFs in WAR (from ESPN's real plus-minus), and 14th overall.

Also, just look at some of the players starting in the finals this year. Millsap would be an above average starter on most NBA finalists.

I'm a fan of Paul Millsap, but I don't really want him back. He's too old to be a long term piece for this developing team...I'd gladly bring back DeMarre Carroll though.
Carroll is only a year younger than Millsap, and plays a position that generally requires more athleticism.

Also, I'm not sure signing Millsap to a big deal is the right move, but Millsap > Favors easily.

You're obviously a very big fan of his, so how much would you offer him? I'm not buying he will give us any kind of discount over Atlanta, we would simply have to outbid them.

No way. I'm a big Sap fan, but that statement is completely underrating Favors. The Gobert/Favors defensive duo is going to wreak havoc next year. I'm kinda shocked at the lack of respect Favors is getting from Jazz fans right now. Best defense in the league in the 2nd half of the season and by a long shot. Favors had a big part in that, and he deserves more credit than he's getting.
