This is exactly it. Cost the Jazz nothing, they rehab his value, he's an excellent trade asset even before he becomes an expiring. And good salary to trade if any Slovenian superstars become available in the summer of '24, the chances of which I consider to be around 60%.

My initial reaction is similar to my initial THT reaction. I think we probably should have gotten more for taking on long term salary, but overall I think the Jazz are in a better spot than they were before the trade. I've always liked Collins and you have to feel confident that his value will improve, that's the benefit of trading for a guy on rock bottom value. A Collins-Lauri-Hendricks froncourt is a dream scenario for Collins. Obviously he'll play with Kessler too, but you cannot draw up a better situation for him to succeed.

I guess the big question is, can he shoot? Was it a bad year, or was it because he has 9 fingers now. Will he ever have 10 fingers again? I don't know the answers to these things so I won't speculate.

It is not HIGH risk but like I said the risk/reward is off for me. If he plays well and his value increases how much can we get for him in trade. If we are keeping him for 3/75M there is an opportunity cost there. If he struggles (he's had a myriad of small injuries) to stay on the court you have a bad contract that will hurt future flexibility. If Hendricks is good you end up putting JC on the bench at some point... that's a great problem to have but not ideal.

There is enough risk there I wanted something to take the deal on... that is where the money is made on this deal imo.
 
I bet he has a maybe 3 good games all season that resemble his paycheck, or better yet, has none and Hendricks pushes this clown to the bench just like he deserves lol
I hate when people ignore his game is all about athleticism, and he had to use methods unacceptable to the league to be better than his peers. Now he is not using said enhancers and his game is flashes of it's former glory.

You really need to actually pay attention to the other western conference teams as well. We aren't winning 47 game next year or even close to it based on the current roster. The west is brutal and I still think we are a bottom 5 team.

You got to remember in 2-3 years half our roster could be trade fodder for a superstar. You got to stack the roster as much as possible with good players until then.

Agreed.

I think he's taking the Masai path in Toronto who accumulated enough talent to strike for a big star like Kawhi which ofc led to a ring. I'm assuming most of us would be cool with that outcome although I'd prefer not to lose the star after one season.

not to mention the majority of the success was before deadline trades
