Jazz trade talk 2024-25

All eyes should shift to Pels if a Kessler trade is going to happen. I would expect if Ingram becomes a hard target Kessler would be included in that trade.

Honestly, I am more interested in potential destinations for Clarkson and Collins. Injuries will probably play a major role in either of them moving. Next year seems the better option as both will be on expiring deals and teams will be looking to dump salary.

Some team will likely have a need for Kessler and may give up enough to get him. It won't be two firsts though. I think a good first and something extra (solid prospect or multiple seconds). There are some teams that are already shallow at center and if an injury happens its an easy contract to put in a deal. Pels is #1 on the list, but there will be others. Sacramento, Charlotte, Atlanta, Lakers, maybe Cleveland if they do an Allen deal and want a really solid backup/part time center to pair with Mobley at times. It will depend on how teams seasons are going and what injuries happen.

Maybe its a first for Kessler and one of the JCs and the bad money is part of the benefit of moving him. I will say there is a 70% shot he is on the roster to start the season NEXT year.

I'm not looking to trade Kessler necessarily, but the reality is that he should have significantly more value to other teams than the Jazz right now. You getter starter-ish (could be less or more depending on his performance) for two seasons extremely cheap. A team that's competing and/or is in a cap crunch has to value that much more than a team in UTA's situation with no immediate cap crunch or desire to compete. NOP fits the description perfectly. Missi+the 2027 pick (most favorable of MIL/NOP) makes a decent amount of sense. Technically, that's two first round pick value but Missi has off the lot pricing.

In the fallout of an Ingram trade Collins, Kessler, and maybe even Eubanks would be on NOP's radar. Everybody knows they're desperate for a real C.

I'd also add GSW to that list if Looney is cooked. They could use another big and they have a surplus of guards.

Supposedly Looney has dropped weight and looks good right now... but yeah that NO trade would make sense. They will eventually address their luxury tax issue as well. That is why Hawkins for Kessler (hopefully they'd add stuff) worked really well as it put them either below the tax or really close.

I think Eubanks could really interest them as a salary match for Moody if Looney isn't right....but either way I still want to target Moody. He's the 12th guy on that team and if Kerr had any faith in him they probably wouldn't have signed two guys to play ahead of him this summer. It's one of those situations where it would be malpractice for his agent to leave him there.

Just for the record, I'm hoping Kessler thrives with the Jazz long term.
Kessler is the player you have to build your rotations and sets around and he is simply not that good to build anything around him. Almost no hops, no offensive game, soft, confidence issues, poor free-throw shooter... He needs to somehow improve so many things to thrive long term... and many of those things are simply who he is physically and mentally and not a skill issue.

I am afraid that Kessler will not get much in a trade now. I hope he turns it around but not holding my breath. I like some of the centers in the next couple of drafts that the Jazz could draft who probably have a higher ceiling than Kessler.

khaman Malauch - Huge fan and think he would be a great draft target. Has a couple year how ever before but could ultimatly stretch the floor and protect the basket.

There's 0 reason to trade Kessler. He might not be a top 15 center, and Lord knows I dont enjoy watching him play, but he still has great backup potential and I dont think he's going to get any crazy offers in RFA.

This. Kessler is a solid guy for regular season success. It’s a long season and I think he has skills that fit very well into the rotation. I was hoping for more improvement by this point, but that might not be in the cards. There’s really no need to sell low on him right now. Build from the top down, and if that displaces him. . . so be it.
