Unless Snyder decides to adjust the team's strategy, I think it's clear that Burke & Cotton are both poor fits in the starting lineup due to their defensive limitations. I could see Neto being an adequate starting PG on this roster due to his passing/facilitating abilities so long as he is able to provide good defense (which is questionable, imo, as I haven't seen enough defensive film on him). Personally, if a reasonable deal (1st rd pick + filler) for an established defensive asset capable of bringing the ball up the court, passing it to Hayward or Hood, & hitting an open 3 when the opportunity presents itself (Bradley) is available, I would prefer to go that route rather than to rely on an unknown such as Neto. I like Neto & Cotton & think that they could both be solid backup PG's (& possibly even Burke if he changes his mentality), but I also think that we have enough surplus assets, opportunity/incentive to win now, & doubt about the future of our PG position that it would be worth making a trade (obviously depending on who it's for & the price it would require to do so).

Just to throw a wrench in Stifle's opinion:

Andy Larsen: I’ve been told Jazz still haven’t contacted outside sources, either any FAs or any other teams, about acquiring replacement for Dante Exum. Jazz seem relatively content to begin the season with Neto, Burke, and Cotton, and acquire PG help if needed later in the year.

OK. If Larsen is correct, then Lindsey is indeed backing up his words that he made when addressing the situation right after Exum returned to SLC. My reaction was based on the OP's report that Utah had gone after Terry. If they didn't, my harsh opinion isn't relevant anymore because the Terry conversations never happened. And the thread title is now wrong. It should be changed to "Jazz (may) have tried to sign Jason Terry...but Larsen denies it."

But we've seen damage control before. Likely, had Jet decided to sign with Utah, the organization would have positioned him as an off-guard who can also handle the ball. That would have made everyone happy, except whomever would have eventually been cut (Cotton, Millsap or Johnson). So I guess the OP's report is still correct. Jazz went after Terry, but not as a replacement for Exum. It would have been as a replacement for someone else currently on the roster. Now I understand.
 
BTW, I think DL is one of the top GM's in the business right now. And if you read back through my posts, I never claimed he wasn't. I have no problems with how he has built the team thus far - except for his pick of Trey Burke. Yes, I know, it was "spun" as being Corbin's choice - any many of you buy that. See, perfect example of damage control. Corbin probably did want Trey, but the GM is ultimately responsible for EVERY personnel decision. He gets input from the scouting department, coaches and consultants. But the buck stops at the GM's desk. The only exception to that in Utah's case is we know Sloan had equal (or more) pull on personnel decisions than any GM we had.
 
I hate to come in after skimming the thread, but how would acquiring Terry be a threat to Exum losing his place or evidence of DL not honoring his word to not replace, or whatever, Exum? Is Terry the PGOTF? Guy has not been a starter since 2006-2007 and I doubt he magically would be ten years later in 2016-2017, the year he'll turn 39.

Jason Terry isn't technically a PG btw. So DL can just be talking in a technicality that Terry wasn't being asked to replace anyone, but just add 3pt shooting.

More importantly, if my dryer breaks and it's going to take the repairman a month to come out to fix it and, in the meantime, I hang a clothesline up outside, did I just insult my dryer by replacing it?

He isn't a PG anymore. He once was one of the best in the NBA though. Jason Terry is probably Trey Burke's best case scenario at this point, even though that's fairly lofty..

I would never even consider doing a thing like that to my dryer. You must be a real jerk.
