What's new

Jazz vs Mavericks | Friday December 3rd @ 8:30pm

The first 3 periods was basically a replay against the Milwaukee game - only this time against a much, much better team. Price, Watson, Bell and Miles went 4 for 20 combined - almost all jump shots.

The Jazz clanked at least a half dozen wide-open jumpers in the second period alone - they should have been up 15-18 points in that quarter. Then they clanked several more in the beginning of the 4th. By that time The Mavericks were way overdue for a major run.

Jazz need an instant offense guy in the second unit - and it's not Miles; he too inconsistent. When Memo comes back and he's ready to make a contribution this team will win games like this.

Thriller, I think Sloan kind of endorses your observation.

Thanks.

It was really obvious. Like I said, I'm usually (if I'm at the game) in the nosebleed section. This time I got hooked up with seats just 5 rows up. I'm not sure if I've ever actually been in the lower bowl....

Needless to say, I paid a lot more attention to the game and could see their facial expressions, yells, and the way they ran their plays a lot better.

AK probably wasn't the only one screwing up (as others have mentioned). Elson was HORRIBLE with his passes, as it showed with 4 turnovers. I think Al and Millsap missed guys cutting in the lane trying to get layups. One instance in particular, was a Millsap drive and left handed layup when he could have dumped it down under the basket for an AK dunk (as Kidd was on him). Millsap scored but it was because of his individual play not because the offense was executed.

AK was the one I saw screw up multiple times... And was the root of Deron's frustration. I thought he was going to go off on AK like he did Hayward one of those times.

Dallas came in and kicked us around. They're still a real good team.

Talking over the loss to Dallas

Published on Dec 4, 2010 01:14AM 0 Comments

Some late quotes from the Jazz after their 93-81 loss to Dallas:

Jerry Sloan, on Dallas' zone defense: "We had some trouble. When they started zoning us, we lost our position on the floor a few times and looked confused. We knew they would probably try and zone us, but we didn't have as good a spacing as we should have. ... Those things happen."

---

Sloan, on the loss: "They came out and beat us in the second half. They really pushed the ball up the floor and we had a tough time getting back to try and cover them. We also missed some free throws, and their bench ... was kind of a problem for us. They bring a lot of good, veteran players [off the bench] who would start on a lot of teams."

---

Deron Williams, on losing to the Mavericks: "We ran into a good team, playing as good as us -- better tonight. ... We had some good looks at the basket but missed some easy ones. Their zone stifled us a little bit. Then they went back to a man and we never got back to executing. If I could point to a couple of things, it would be they had 19 points off turnovers and then the free-throw shooting. If you shoot under 70 percent, it's hard to win a game."

---

Williams, on how the loss impacts the Jazz in the Western Conference: "We're still one of the best teams. But we still have some ups and downs. This is one of those nights. Things just didn't go our way. The Mavericks played better than us. Simple as that."

---

Andrei Kirilenko, on why the Mavericks outscored the Jazz, 54-38, in the second half: "I think we [had] a little lack of energy. ... In the first half, we were running. We were active. We were pressing them. In the second half, it was just a different team."

The Mavs played some great ball. Beautiful defense. Good players playing really good ball. And their coach is doing a good job.

Well, this thread was definitely a failure and for that I apologize. I failed you Jazzfanzz.

Apology accepted and really no apology needed I don't really blame you it was those damn jinx posts that got screwed up that did it.

Oh and if by "thread" you mean every thread and everything in your life up to this point I agree. If by "failure" you mean complete and utter epic fail then yes I also agree and by "Jazzfanzz" you mean everybody and anything that has ever existed then yes again I agree.

frustrating loss, but you have to tip your hat to the Mavs. What's not to like about that team? They have an unstoppable superstar; a savy vet PG; deep bench; length; a wing that knows how to score on his own. Those are the ingredients.

This loss sort of reminds me of the loss to the Spurs. The Jazz need to be able to run a two-man game when our complicated motion isn't producing. They need to be able to grab 6-8 pnts when they need it... control the pace of the game for a few minutes... and alter the structure of the game. Memo should help because he'll spread the floor for this to happen, but AJ needs to get a lot more automatic from inside 5 feet or we'll never get this going.

It's Sloan's fault that we shot 21 percent from the 3 point line (CJ 2-6)?
Hold on, hold on, hold on. It's CJ's fault the Jazz shot 21% from 3 because he shot significantly better than 21% from 3? Are you that stupid or do you just blindly hate CJ that much?

dude, let me remind you that you are, in fact, talking to the one and only O Gatino. end of story.

THAT'S who that is? ****.

Anyway, 33% from 3 is not actually bad at all. It's effectively the same as 50% from 2. If you can shoot that every night, it's at worst a net-neutral. If his percentages would've held up, CJ should've shot MORE 3s.

If there was a problem from 3, it's that everyone appeared scared to shoot it. When Dallas is zoning and/or collapsing in the paint all night, it's time to try some 3-pt shooting at a higher rate. Miles and Deron accounted for 9 of the 14 3-pointers shot (and ALL of the makes), and while they're probably the most trustworthy personnel to be doing that, that just shows the sad state of affairs that the Jazz are in with that category. Part of the long-ball is having confidence, and if you can't trust yourself to take threes against a paint-packing philosophy, you're not going to get very far in the post-season. Or maybe even the regular season.
