Jazz vs. Red Sox

The Jazz had the fifth highest payroll in the NBA last season.

That's because we had a guy like Kirilenko making the max. The Red Sox were considered possibly the best team in baseball in August. Even with our great start, I find it hard to argue that we had one of the top teams in the NBA talent wise.

Sox didn't lose their coach and lone star player in the middle of the season. Jazz drop was expected, Sox was not.

The Jazz were slipping before Sloan and Williams left. They were a team going through some turnover. So they didn't really fall apart like the Red Sox.

I don't disagree. My problem was the implication that the Jazz didn't spend when you called them a small market team. That hasn't been true for a few years now.

Red Sox had the best team on paper in the AL, and probably in all of baseball.

We were a decent team that lost Boozer, Wes, and Brew.

In the scheme of things they are a small market team even with their payroll. They have 2 non contributors or small contributors eating up a huge chunk of salary in Kirilenko and Okur. I guess you can argue Kirilenko contributed more than I give him credit for. Now if we were spending like the Mavs and Lakers then I would say the failure was comparable. Anyway, they were up there as far as payroll but not near a team like LA. As for Boston, the Clay Buchholtz injury and Josh Beckett injury really screwed them. Lester was also pitching ineffectively at the least opportune time. I am glad I am not a Red Sox fan.... That is until I remember I am a Cub fan.

I'm on Baltimore Orioles fan and it felt almost as good as a Playoff win.

Also another question could be which team will recover faster, I've heard from the talking heads this could put the Boston in a tail spin for a few years. I also think Francona leaving/fired is a mistake and an over reaction but don't mind cause I think it hurts them.
