Naz Long played on the Jazz Summer League team and was previously playing with the Stars. Seems like a pretty good shooter, but his 3pt% has been bad thus far in the G-League.

Naz Long is a great basketball name... also a decent porn name. Already like him more than Wolters

With all these people on two-ways getting waived, I wonder if agents are going to shy away from these deals and just push their players overseas. Is any of it guaranteed?

Wolters sucked though , Griffin getting cut was bad too but oh well
Nobody cuts Griff.

Just Lindsey being Lindsey. Shuffling the deck.

I did find it interesting they waived Wolters, a pg, and added a SG. I wonder if that had anything to do with Mitchell’s development as a primary ball handler.

Naz has more scoring skill and potential than Wolters

I believe 2-way players get a guaranteed bonus upon signing their contract. Then, they're hoping to be called up to practice or play with the NBA team for up to 45 days. That would boost their total pay to $275K.

The drawback is they can ONLY be called up by the team which owns their rights. If a non 2-way player gets called up on a 10-day contract, he'd get around $50K. It's really a trade-off. A 2-way player gets more G-League money, but is restricted in terms of opportunity to be called up. A non 2-way player makes less, but can be offered 10-day contracts - or signed to an NBA contract by any team.

IINM, 2-way contracts can only be signed through Jan. 15, so obviously the Jazz have evaluated the players and decided to go in a different direction. Wolters, unfortunately, had been unable to play precisely when Utah needed an extra body with Mitchell going down.

Dude, it's pretty obvious the "Lower back pains" were something the Jazz made up because they were in the process of cutting him.

Probably. Naz is a weird signing, though. It's not like he's lighting up the league. A SG who is 37%/30%. And it's not like he's a young prospect. He's 24.
DL really failed to put together a decent GLeague team. Doesn't speak well of his ability to a) judge talent and b) the player development program he's touted.
At some point, because of injuries, trades, free agency, having a few decent players developing in the GLeague could become important, especially now that you just can't pluck the best players and sign them to 10-days. Most of the best Gleaguers now have their rights owned by the parent club.

I don't think the G-League team playing poorly reflects anything on DL. Playing well in the G-League =/= being a good NBA player and vice-versa just cuz you play poorly in the G-League doesnt mean you cant play well in the NBA. It's a different style of basketball and less structured. Players come and go frequently in the G-League too, which probably makes it very difficult to win. The Jazz have waived two 2-way contracts, have had Bradley up and down because of injuries, and same with Wolters when he was on the team.

How close was Wolters to the 45-day limit? Seems like he's been listed as inactive a lot on the team roster and had played in a few games. Could he have been close to reaching the limit? If so, they either had to sign him to an NBA contract (and waive someone else), or just keep him in the G-League without being able to call him up.

Usually just the opposite...just cuz you play great in the GLeague, doesn't mean you will in the NBA. That "come and go" theory applies to every team. The Stars have won 3 games; worst in the league. Why are other teams successful and not the Stars? This will mark the 7th straight year (and by far, the worst) that Utah's Alphabet-League affiliate will have a losing record. Even a blind squirrel should be able to put together at least a year or two of .500 basketball.

Plenty of players go to the G-League and struggle because the fast paced style doesnt suit them or they are asked to create too much offense. As far as what it takes to be a succesful G-League team, I really don't know. Most G-League teams are comprised of people with no real shot of even getting called up to the NBA. Maybe the Stars just don't have as many quality rank and file G-League veterans as others.

Enter the cliche... Naz Long is a great guy to have on any team. Superior attitude and personality, good work ethic. Very genuine, dude never changes.
