Jeremy Evans as SF?

Those who have seen Evans in practice and at Western Kentucky have said he has a respectable mid-range jumper - but that he has a slow release and often lacks confidence to take it during games. With his shooting, passing and handling limitations - IMO at this point he's strictly a PF - which I think will suit him well throughout his career.
Many of his dunks come off the huge advantage he has over other PF's - quickness, agility and leaping ability - on offensive putbacks and the "Early-oop" where we call for a high screen-roll but instead of coming out to the 3pt line to set the screen Evans rolls off his man at the elbow and goes to the rim. Doubt he will ever be a starter but I see him as a Bo Outlaw high-energy type who can outquick alot of bigger guys and he has all the physical tools to be an outstanding pick-and-roll defender.

Yeah I see what you're saying. The good thing is that he can always develop a good shot. Many PF's have done it. I think we need to see him play a little more to see exactly what his limitations are. He definetly has the talent to be a good player. Thanks for your post vslice

His shooting is a problem. I have advocated this in the past. However I have changed my mind. His lack of lateral quickness and lack of ball handling skills, are more of a problem than his shooting.
I hope with his play last night that he does get some burn though.

Evans is a guy that is easy to love. He hustles hard, he always makes exciting plays and he just seems like he loves basketball. However giving Evans more playing time will only accentuate his weaknesses. He's not big enough to defend most post players, he's not laterally quick enough to defend most SF's. He doesn't have a good shot, he can't dribble...Evans should never be a guy that plays more than 6-10 minutes a game. I really like the guy, and I hope he improves his game, but right now playing Evans a lot of minutes would be a mistake.

I agree hantlers. But some burn was earned last night. Even if it's just 5-10 MPG. In 5-10 MPG he can make a quick contribution without being scouted "too much" and can hopefully learn and improve some of his flaws.
His strengths are not that of a SF, and his weaknesses are worst as a PF. A most curious and extreme case of a tweener.
If he wants to be a real player in this league, he'll do it primarily as a SF (provided he can even play it). Or as a backup PF on a team depleted of bigs.

Backup 4 in small ball situations is as far as I see him going.
Height doesn't matter. Look at Kevin Durant. Same basic height as Evans. But KD has game coming out his wazoo. Evans has very little game (or should I say, a narrow skill set?) Anyway, if he had the shot and the handles of Durant, with a little more bulk, he'd be a force to be reckoned with. As it is, he's a nice little energy guy, now and then.

Yeah, if he had those skills, he'd be better than LeBron and he wouldn't have been drafted in the 2nd round last year too...
For a guy who plays barely 6 minutes per game, and adding maybe 2 mpg at a new position, to debate whether his skill set and size is a 3 or 4 is really splitting hairs, even if it were a matter of 14 mpg. Use him when you need him, don't when you don't. The mental masturbatory exercises we exhibit when pondering these matters no doubt rivals those of the coaching staff and upper echelons of Jazz management who, as far as I can tell, haven't ever had Evans on the floor while another 4/5 combo was also on the floor. Apparently doing so would not only destroy Evans' career and our season, but will also have cataclysmic effects on the universe by altering the space-time continuum.
