Jeremy Evans given Qualifying Offer

Until Harris is traded. And that could be soon, or it could come at the deadline.

Rumors were Dallas was talking about Harris instead of the trade exception. Now, Dallas wants the cap space for Deron, but if Deron stays in Brooklyn (which I think he will, Howard has just demanded a trade to Brooklyn), then Dallas can turn around and trade us back our exception and a future first for Harris.

Another example of how KOC is a great GM. He could have strong armed Dallas into taking Harris for Williams, but did the exception. Now, when Dallas comes back and still wants Harris, he can get an additional pick/player out of the deal.

Exceptions can't be traded like that. In fact, they are not really "traded" at all, even though the media's language often makes it sound like that. Dallas does not now have our exception as a result of the Mo Williams trade. Once a trade exception is used in a trade it ceases to exist.

Since Dallas and the Jazz are both over the cap, any future trades would have to be subject to the regular matching salary rules (unless Dallas has its own trade exception that I don't know about, or had one created for them as a result of this trade).

Edit: see item 82 here
https://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm

Trade exceptions are not traded from one team to another. Sometimes it appears like this is happening when one team uses a trade exception to acquire salary without sending salary away, and the other team gains a trade exception in the same process because they sent away salary without receiving salary in return. However, the trade exception the first team uses and the trade exception the second team gains are two distinct exceptions.

^^^ Dallas gets the Lamar Odom trade exception from trading Odom to the Clippers for no return players.

Yeah. Dallas has an exception that they could use to send back to us. So, essentially, we would be getting our exception back, just with a longer expiration date.
