Joe Johnson Coming to Utah

I was surprised by this when I got up this morning. Pleasantly surprised. Guess we'll see how it works out this year but seems like a good move.

I am just throwing this out there, but maybe Joe was thinking of his post career options. If he wants to get into coaching, then choosing a young team with a lot of talent would allow him to showcase his mentoring abilities. A dramatic rise from 9th to 5th or 4th seed in the West reflects well on everyone on the team, but think of what it does for Joe's resume' if he were applying for an assistant coach position. Just a thought.

Great point.

I think first and foremost he thinks that the Jazz are on their way to being contenders. Second, I think he wants to play for Quin. Third, I think he views this as a way to extend his career since he doesn't have to be THE guy and won't have to play big minutes. Fourth, he probably relishes the chance to mentor this incredible group we've assembled.

I think he's the type of guy that has made his money, doesn't need the hype that goes with a big market team, and just wants to wrap his career with a great organization and enjoy the challenge of being a part of an up and coming team.
