Collins continues to impress off the bench.

Collins on a 6th/7th man contract makes great sense for a lot of teams. Collins as a starter contract is not a long term option unless he continues to grow.

Collins has been great this year. He’s expanded his offensive game and become much more versatile. Defensively he’s still not great a a C but has upped his activity to make himself more passable, especially in a 3rd big type of role like he’s in now. In the process he’s increased his stock as both a 4 and 5. I think he is more likely to be a part of the long term future than Sexton. His contract makes him difficult to trade, but I can see him signing to a more reasonable contract once his deal is over or having some appeal as an expiring contract who can also play.

I do also like him long term, but I'm afraid he may build some positive value and Ainge cannot resist turning him into future assets.

If we can trade him for future assets, that’s also great. I’m not opposed to getting value for him. The idea of getting value for him or keeping him long term seemed totally out of the picture after the first half of last season. He’s come such a long way.

Hawks overpaid for him but Collins has always been a consistent player overall. I was happy when we traded for him and said nice things about him. As I said when we traded for him... when a playoff-caliber team's PF goes down Collins is going to look mighty good. After next season ends I wouldn't even mind resigning him on a realistic contract as he's getting minutes and is playing well for us.

I think the Sixers could really use Collins. But dont see how it would work out salary wise.

So many teams could use Collins. Improved offensive versatility and defensive activity has made him a guy pretty much any team can use. The contract does make it very difficult though. CHO is another team who I think would love him.

John Collins officially became the leader of the Jazz. He is the first in points, second in rebounds, first in steals, and first in fire and scrappiness. He is the guy who can go and push around Edey.
And oh, he is also incredibly efficient.

But half of his ascent is not simply because he plays so well but because the purported leaders of the team - Lauri, Keyonte, Sexton, Clarkson - completely pooped the bed. John Collins has more leadership and toughness than all of them combined.
