John L. Smith coming back to Utah?

Being an Ogden-area fellow, I was interested to see in the Trib today that John L. Smith's name has surfaced as a candidate to replace McBride at Weber State. Probably not a bad hire for WSU but I had heard rumor that they were also looking at Montana State's OC and was hoping they'd go in that direction.....

Thoughts?

Does anybody else on the board give a flying **** about Weber State?

I do. The only time I root against the Utes is when they play the Wildcats. It works out as well as when I root for the Rams each Sunday.

I went to Weber State for my undergrad degrees. I got into student politics a little and was jaded from that so now I don't really care about the organization all that much. And I have no idea who John L. Smith is. I googled it and he is apparently either a former football player and current special teams coach somewhere, or he is a feature columnist for the Nevada News, or he is a car salesman in West Chester PA.

I came in here thinking he was the hire.

Not sure I'm in love with hiring John L. Smith. McBride was a success, but Portland St. went through a couple years of hell with Jerry Glanville, so a name guy guarantees nothing.

If I remember correctly, Smith was the last coach to have success in Logan. He has a good track record in the state. But I agree that a big name doesn't always mean anything.

But it wasn't and I'm still anticipating a response.

I would venture to say jazzman12, and you are about the only ones posting rhetorical questions on Jazz Fanz as far as I can see.
