John Stockton’s dirty little secret

For God's sake, please bring back dislikes. Without them the idiots who are loudest seem to get the impression that everyone but the person who is bothering to respond to their idiocy thinks their point is worth going on and on about.

Jeff Moses??
Moses Plenty.

I would honestly take Stockton over Jerry West. West put up some gaudy stats but I would still choose Stock as my floor general.

And why are you including Jeff Malone anyway?
I guess If I had to pick a player to be on my team I would pick Stockton. They just came from different eras. But I would say West had a more successful better career and deserves a higher rank.

Looks like you didn't read his post.
Yeah, he said years. I dont have a way to post those. But I still think its the same. CP3 has better stats at his peak. CP3 has the benefit of playing now days and its easier to put up big stats offensively. That is why I think Stockton is better and have stated that the entire time.

Oscar and Magic were great, but they were physically gifted athletes with a huge built in mismatch every time they stepped on the court, but in terms of pg play Stockton did it with as close to perfection as you can do it. Maybe Magic and Oscar were better all around players thanks to their size and athleticism, but pound for pound Stockton was the best ever to play in the nba period!!
Yeah, that is a different argument.

They are better because of multiple reasons including their athleticism. But pretty much every NBA player is great because of physical gifts.

But it sounds like we are in agreement on Magic being a better player.

I took out the guys Stockton is better then.

Okay, this is a more interesting discussion to me.

You think Stockton is better than:
Duncan
Hakeem
Bill Russell
Dr J
Jerry West
Elgin Baylor
Moses Malone
Karl Malone

I disagree but that is interesting how high you have him ranked. A find a few of those pretty crazy, but you are a die hard old school Jazz fan so that makes sense that you are a homer about it. I wonder how many people agree with you that Stockton is better than Karl Malone.

Is there a way to determine who was the best "pound for pound" player in the NBA.
Win shares / average career weight?

I've heard this pound for pound argument over the years and it would be nice if it could be solved and put to bed.

The problem with this whole idea, is that it is a circular reference. If you pull Stock out of the equation, it changes Malone's numbers completely. If you pull Malone out of the equation, it changes Stock's numbers completely. You literally cannot determine which was the better, it's all subjective.

They are conjoined twins that cannot be separated.
