What's new

Josh Howard has agreed to terms with Utah

off the top of my head:

lamar odom.
brad miller.
darius miles.
jason williams.
chris anderson.
brandon rush.
ricky davis.
cliff robinson.
maurice taylor.

there are also any number of other famed smokers who haven't been suspended by the league:
marcus camby.
damon stoudamire.
jr rider.
michael beasley.

i haven't got a problem with any of them.

back on topic, i like this signing.
it says to me that ak's asking price was way too high and the jazz found a comparable role player for (hopefully) much less.
if howard can regain any of his previous form, provide some veteran presence and not rock the boat too much in utah it's a great signing.

yeah but hear in kanada wed is legel and it dosnt hav anie negative efets on no ones bran! wed is good and archie dumb and mormons dum too. i usd to be a membur of lds church butt they didnt lik me smockin wed and i got pised and now i trash them whenever i kan and now i want josh howard cuz he smockes wed and wed is good and u all suk and i so smart and wed is good and archie dum and mormons dum too and josh howard is col and kanada is the best and usa suks.

I'm okay with this deal as long as we ship Bell in some kind of trade and get rid of Kirilenko...

While I'm all for shipping Bell, do you really not realize that Kirilenko is not signed by Utah? No need to get rid of him, he is already gone.

We need depth this year due to the compressed schedule. In a normal year, you'd easily be able to get by with 4 bigs and 4 wings. This season, a lot of guys are going to be sucking wind when they play 4 games in 5 nights, etc.

The one year contract means Utah is free and clear if they need the space for 2 draft picks. Besides, if Howard and Tinsley are playing great and Utah is out of the playoff picture, the Jazz can trade them for picks to contenders. Having Miles, Tinsley, Howard and Okur with expiring deals also faciltates any trade opportunties that might pop up.

I don't disagree that we need more depth. I just question why they chose Howard. Perhaps I'm being a pessimist; but to me, this move means less Hayward and more Miles/Bell.

Please ban any poster who thinks Kirilenko is part of the team. They should not be posting on a Jazz board. Wondering why we did not go after Reggie Williams after he was let go.

Does anyone get how unlikely it is that Burks is ready for regular minutes? (And don't get me wrong, I light a candle every day that we lucked into the next Dwayne Wade with him.)

Last year, the most "pro ready" wing drafted was Evan Turner. Pretty similar players (outside athleticism), too -- primary ball handlers who could score and fill box sheets. Only Turner was more accomplished. And he could still barely hang on to a rotation job. The other guys (going off memory) were Hayward, George, Aminu, Henry, and George. Not one of those guys was ready for minutes out of the gate.

Agreed. I am sooo excited about Burks, but if we throw him out on the court too early, he could lose his confidence and it may take a while to get it back.

You need to test positive (or otherwise get caught) 3 times for weed to earn a 5 game suspension (with "treatment programs" and the like for the first two offenses) . Josh Howard has never been suspended for weed. In his interview with Michael Irvin where he fessed to smoking weed in the offseason, he also stated that he doesn't smoke during the season. Even if he did, if he doesn't get caught 3 times, who cares?

And yes, I would like examples of players suspended for weed.

So you CAN be suspended. I thought you said you couldn't be suspended?

Brandon Rush thinks you're a moron.

I like the idea of the Howard signing.
I'm more worried about his injury and coming back full strength or close to it, than I am his personal issues.
It would be a problem for me if it is an issue in the locker room.
I'm not as concerned about him not being patriotic as I am our lawmakers being patriotic, or pretending to be patriotic while doing what they do for money.

This is like KOC said a risk for both sides, but if it works out it could be very rewarding for both.

See it is a one year deal so not to bad, still think we should have gone after someone younger. Reggie Williams, Shawne Williams, etc. O'Connor's comments not exactly a ringing endorsement either but he is a Jazzman now so lets hope he contributes.

It's called hyperbole (that is, I'd read the CBA, and was well aware of the penalties for getting caught smoking weed in the NBA, before making my post). It's no mystery that a large majority of NBA players smoke weed. Even then, it seems as though the average for weed suspensions per year is less than 1. Josh Howard has no violations, as far as I can tell. Hell, he only admitted to smoking during the offseason. Where's the harm?

Anyway, I shouldn't have called you a moron.

I hope he plays 10-15 minutes a game a la Raja Bell. On nights that our young guys our gettin torched he can try to put our the fire.

You guys are right. Athletes can do whatever they want as long as they perform on the court. What was I thinking? They're not role models or anything.

With that said, I'm actually glad about the signing. However, I do think there are some legitimate concerns with him.

He needs to go to church mawr often n warship the man up stairs mawr? Huh Archie.
Last I checked Michael phelps smokers teh ganja and Reggie bush now has dirt weed aliased as his name. So yeah. Also ain't like no ten year old is sitting around saying "I wanna be like Josh Howard." .... Ain't like nobody WARSHIPS him!

I'm a positive guy. But your views on this issue along with religion are completely wacked.
Maybe if you spent 1/10 as much time thinking/reading/learning as you do talking out your ***, people would take you seriously. I'm amazed you still post here.

Who said anything like that? Not that you have any clue, but what's so wrong with smoking weed and not standing during the anthem?
