Josh Howard has agreed to terms with Utah

I love the move myself. He's the best 2/3 Utah has had in terms of talent in ages, and this team needs some more veterans. Plus I just don't think his "character" issues are all they are cracked up to be.

Not to mention I love the Jazz FO thinking outside their usual restrictive box.

Pardon my negativity but so is a first round playoff exit.

And think of all the fond memories San Antonio had AFTER their '96-'97 season when they went 20-62. When you think of the spurs you think of all their winning seasons before that little blip that enabled those winning seasons.

It makes perfect sense.
 
Why does everybody think that Josh Howard is going to start? I think that he most likely will be one of the primary reserves. Remember, he is coming off of MAJOR knee surgery. That is why we got him so cheap. He probably will never be the player he once was. I don't know if he is quite ready yet for a return to full-time starter minutes. However, he still should be a solid reserve, IMO. I like this depth chart:

PG: Devin Harris, Earl Watson, Jamaal Tinsley
SG: Gordon Hayward, C.J. Miles, Alec Burks
SF: Paul Millsap, Josh Howard, Jeremy Evans
PF: Derrick Favors, Mehmet Okur, Jeremy Evans
C: Al Jefferson, Enes Kanter, Mehmet Okur

That is one deep team. I will definitely be going to the open practice on Saturday. I can't wait for this season. On paper, we might have one of the deepest teams in the NBA talent-wise.
 
Love this deal for the following reasons:

1. One year deal. This is fantastic - especially in case he turns into the '11-'12 version of last season's Raja Bell. Don't have to worry about using the amnesty clause on after his knees give out or he turns into a headcase. Nice work KOC.

2. The Spurs/Lakers didn't get him. I'm shocked he didn't go to San Antonio. I definitely pictured them signing him for a year and him playing a role in a nice playoff run.

3. It's symbolic of the Jazz moving into the Corbin era. No way Jerry would have put allowed this signing to happen. Even though this deal isn't really risky at all, the Jazz of the last quarter-century would not have done it.

4. Finally, and what people aren't really talking about that much, is he might actually help this club win some games. He's got big game experience and we all know he can score from a lot of different spots on the court. Hopefully he still has some chemistry with D-Harris.

I hope so. That was the absolute dumbest rule I've ever seen implemented by Sloan...well, other than his "let's let everyone and their mother take wide open 3s all game" defensive strategy.

I think most concerning to me is his knee.

As I remember, he really sucked in Washington. It's been a few years since he has played good ball. We don't need another John Starks or Raja Bell on this team trying to hold on to a career that was really over years ago.
If he stays healthy, how effective will he be? He hasn't shot over .40 in a long time. We don't need another chucker.

If he sucks? How will he react to being dumped to the bench in favor of younger players?

The same logic could be applied to Raja Bell, Al Jefferson, and Paul Millsap?

How are our vets going to react if or when the young kids outplay them and demand more minutes? How will Ty Corbin manage these egos? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
