What's new

Josh Howard?

I really like Howard. He is a great guy and it was nice to have him on the team last year.
We should work something out to get him on GS next year, sort of a placement program.
He is loyal so he could be a spy over there and help them suck just enough to get the 7 pick and give it to us.
This loyalty is a tool, KOC, use it.

I am joking....................sortof.

Carrol>>>>Howard.
Wait wait wait, are you just trying to get a reaction? There is no way that Carrol is way better than Josh Howard. At the very most they are on equal ground, and that is being optomistic. Howard athletically makes Carrol look like a d league player (which is where he was headed before we signed him). They both have kinda crappy shooting percentages.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want Josh back, he's a chucker ball hog who thinks he's still all star material, but Carrol is basically an energy guy who happens to be young enough to develop some more if he works hard, he is not better than Howard -right now-.

Howard sucked last season. Carroll was more valuable because of his hustle and defense. Howard was a black hole; he'd go in and chuck worse the CJ. No to Howard.

I hope not. Hayward, Williams, Burks, Murphy, and Foye should be enough. Especially considering the fact that Millsap can play some 3.

Well put.
I hope Howard gets an offer for a few million more from another team and calls KOC to apologize for being "disloyal," but says he just can't turn down the extra cash.

Gotta think KOC is hoping that too. Saves him from having to pull the offer.

Lots of posturing going on I think.

Even without Howard I have a hard time seeing Murphy on the final roster. They may keep him just to send to the D-league. But I doubt it. We will see.
Jazz said he was better than expected in SL practices. He obviously didn't shoot as consistently in the games as we would have liked, but he's got a good release. He'll make the team and play in the D-League. He's too good of a prospect to give up on after just SL and training camp. Can't look at every guy as "if he can't turn into an all-star, just cut him." Murphy COULD be a good shooter off the bench who won't kill you by playing no defense. And quality backups will become very important next year and forward as there won't be as much money available as the young players come up for non-rookie contracts. The Jazz depth is going to take a major hit.

I think Murphy stays and the last spot either belongs to Carroll or Howard. I wonder if Howard has a deal from Utah on the table.

Josh Howard Narrows List To Five, Near Free Agent Decision

Josh Howard has narrowed his list of potential landing spots to Brooklyn, New York, Utah, Indiana and Golden State and is expected to soon make a decision.

Boooooo!

No, but he will eat into minutes. Howard will not be signing up for a bunch of DNP's. There's enough depth even if someone goes down.
96 mins = 3*32 (Williams, Hayward, Burks). Having Foyle means reducing mins for Marvin and Alec (for example, Hayward at 30, Marvin at 25, Alec at 21, Foyle at 20). And we're not even counting garbage mins for Carroll or Murphy. Beyond that, Millsap could also play some SF to give the bigs more minutes. And Mo could also play SG in a small line-up, allowing more time for Tinsley and Watson (in the case of a couple of players being hurt).

Wow when did the Jazz sign Foyle, guess ol' Adonal came out of retirement and KOC signed him to get minutes at SG/PG or SF? Positive he's 6'10", he'd be the best rebounder at his position bad news is he's 37 and would suck C let alone any other position.

Wonder how the competition between Foyle vs Foye, Alex Burk vs Alec Burks, Ronnie Millsap & Paul Milsap vs Paul Millsap will all play itself out.

For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE DON'T SIGN JOSH HOWARD! I would rather have Carroll as my third SF.

thing is with those "so-and-so has offers from these teams" things that come out is that they obviously come from agents. only a player or his rep would have info about exactly who is talking to a player and who the player is still considering.

and once you realize that the "source" is either the player or his agent, it's not hard to figure out the end game -- they want to use a list of 5 teams as a way to get leverage with the 1-2 teams with whom they're actually negotiating earnestly. that doesn't mean the agent hasn't had conversations with all five teams listed, but if he's actually closing in on a deal with, say, indiana, it helps him to be able to say, "better hurry and meet me halfway, because brooklyn, GS, utah and NY are all interested."

at least that's what i'm telling myself so i don't have to believe that the jazz are actually considering signing him when we already have 6 wings, including 4 i really want to see play major minutes.

Signing Howard would make this a very deep veteran team and possibly hinder the growth of Hayward and Burks. Depending on his role, I would be in favor of the signing, as it shows that the Jazz are serious about winning now. Much of me, though, thinks it would be better to develop another young person with the 14/15th roster spot than to sign another veteran who will possibly be very disgruntled about lack of minutes likes Raja was last season. A disgruntled veteran hurts team chemistry and the maturity of the younger players on and off the court.

I think Carroll clearly played well to get that final SF spot. No need for Howard with the Marvin Williams and Randy Foye singings. That gives the Jazz Hayward, Williams, Carroll and Millsap that can all play some of the 3.

I think there is a 1% chance of signing Howard, but if we did TWolves here I come. :) Already dont understand why we are going with 3 vet PGs again.

Seeing as the Jazz were not able to get into the lottery and land a PG what PG in free agency would you want that isn't a vet? Even Dragic is a vet more or less.

For the 3rd guy take a chance on a young guy. There a lot of teams kicking themselves because they did not take a chance on a guy named Lin.

Well, I'm not much of a country music fan, so I defintely prefer Paul over Ronnie. Adonal would give us some extra height, but I know he defintely can't play PG.
Thanks for the catch of my typos. That's what I get for trying to post while keeping one eye on the Olympics, a second on my daughter, the third on my wife and the fourth on our cat, who likes to disappear into the living room and pee against the wall. Trying to break her of that habit (the cat, not my wife), but I don't think it's possible.
