What's new

July 14 SL Exum vs Parker 8:30 MT

GVC, did you see the game tonight? If so, I'd love your take on the game.
Enjoyable.

Looks like Kidd has brought iso-ball to Milwaukee...Of course the Bucks don't have a roster filled with strong iso players like the Nets had last season (Brook, JJ, Pierce, Deron). Nice to see the Jazz playing as a unit; very few bad shots in this game. The Bucks weren't pressuring like the 76ers did on Saturday, but the improvement on O between game 1 and 2 was still impressive.

Hood pretty much as advertised. Dude can shoot, both spotting up and pulling up off the dribble. Played within himself for the most part (one bad pull-up 3 IIRC). If Hayward, Exum and Burks struggle hitting spot-up jumpers, it'll be interesting to see how Quin manages Hood's minutes. It's too bad he's not quite big enough to slide to the 4 for a few minutes a la Marvin last season (I guess this is what Novak is for). Spacing could be an issue, especially with the lack of shooting up front for the Jazz. Kanter and Evans consistently hitting open 15-foot jumpers could make a HUGE difference for this team.

With Burke/Alec/Dante at the 1/2 and Gordo/Hood at the 3, the Jazz will probably get bullied on the wing. Malcolm Thomas, and perhaps Brock Motum, could provide some physical play without hurting the Jazz too much offensively with their ability to get up and down the court.

Exum needs to be more selective going toward the sideline when attacking. It'll probably take him some time to adjust to NBA speed and physicality once the real games start.

Hopefully Steve Novak is only used in late game situations and when the Jazz transition play and shooting isn't keeping defenses honest. I'd like to see Gobert and Evans get regular minutes. Kanter may not see many more minutes this season if Gobert's added bulk (he looks bigger, no?) translates on-court (unlike Gordo's last season).

If we can ever get away with a lineup where we have Hayward or Hood at the 4, that would be awesome to watch.

The leader of the Hayward fanboy club just described perfectly why we shouldn't have maxed out Hayward.

Thank you for this post.

Burke's gonna start at the 1, Exum's gonna eventually start at the 2, Burks' the 6th man off the bench, Hayward we've PAID so he'll surely start at the 3.

That's not gonna leave a lot of time for Hood on the floor. The way he's shooting the ball - he's gotta be on the floor.
144 minutes at the 1/2/3 for 5 players, including 2 rookies. That's plenty, especially if the Jazz are going to run. Keep everyone fresh and effective.

What's the matter with everyone? The jazz just beat the Greek Freak and Statue Moroni, and beat them good. The best players in the game were the 23 and 27 picks in the draft. Trey and Dante actually play well together. Coach Snyder is coaching instant offense, or Quinstant Offense as I like to call it. Exum is a basketball angel, gliding effortlessly here and there passing out goodness everywhere he goes. Gobert can pass. Hood can pass. Burks is going to average 16 fta per game if he can stay on the floor. The Jazz are.500 for the first time since March 30, 2013.

Gripe about Hayward tomorrow, tonight we celebrate!!!!

Beautiful

Reading this thread has me pretty excited about this team.

Exum is going to be awesome once he grows into being an nba player.

Hood looks like he will turn out to be a starter, and that is awesome as another piece to the puzzle or an asset.

Gobert. Go. Bear. He was my pick to be awesome in that thread about who we are thing our wagons to. Love the guy.

Also, if anyone is reading this thread and has not sent a neg rep the thrillers way, you should take the opportunity to go ahead and do that. He is a total idiot. Bona fide loser. Totally ruins the awesome feeling in this thread and the good feelings about our rookies.

This is why I don't think we should have matched Hayward.

I wouldn't bet on it. Burke is now 4-18. Sorry, I don't care if Trey does dish out 6-8 assists. If you can't shoot, you ain't surviving as a starting PG in the NBA. Burke will be traded by next summer. Exum will start at PG with Neto as his backup. The 2/3 rotation will be Burks/Hayward/Hood with Gordon splitting his minutes between the 2 and 3.

Yeah but I'd rather have Hood in the starting lineup when both Burke & Exum are there creating. I trust Hood's shot much more than Hayward.

Let's put it this way - if my life was on the line, I'd much rather have Hood shoot the 3 instead of Hayward.

I'd much rather have Burke bring up the ball and hand it off to Exum.

This achieves 2 things:

1. It's 1 less responsibility for Exum to worry about offensively - Exum will still get to create & make plays, just not having to worry about bringing up the ball against pesky PGs like Westbrook/Beverly.

2. Guarding the 2 defensively should keep Exum fresh and less fatigue. Also less likely to get in foul trouble.

The Jazz can start Hood and bring two of Trey/Dante/Alec/Gordo off the bench if they need extra shooting in the starting lineup.

Exactly. But he'll probably have to sit on the bench while we watch Hayward clank one after another off the rim.
