What's new

July 9th, Summer League Game 2: Jazz vs Rockets 1:00 PM MT

I decided before Summer League that I wasn't going to get too high or low on anybody, regardless of if they played poorly or great. It's Summer League folks.

Also, we really need to start calling them Alec and Trey.

So atleast the Jazz got 1 pt for the 4th quarter right?

Gobert only 7 rebounds despite 76 misses in the game (teams shot combined 38%...ouch). B&B Chucking Factory each had 5 for 15 for Utah's backcourt.

Buford, Evans and Gobert had positive numbers while on the floor. Junior Stockton was next at -1 and scored 7 points in 8 minutes of PT.

Honestly this whole thing will look better with legit bigmen and a practiced pick and roll. It will free shots for Burke and Burkes, especially when the defense has to account for Hayward as well. Gobert is as raw as they come and he looks seriously legit as a starting big man in this mess. He is not a starting big man. The problem is that we have to wait until October to see any of that. The secondary problem is that we may have to wait until January before it becomes pretty.

On the plus side, our defense will develop faster and has mighty upside.

Gobert looking good. Most interesting is his low foul to block rate. Doesn't play reckless like most young centers do. In 51 minutes he has only committed 3 fouls while blocking 5 shots.

Honestly I think Burke is trying to hard to play "Jazz" ball... the offense is not second nature yet, the other players don't have it all down yet, so its just awkward. I think he would benefit by just playing his game a bit more, being himself, and then letting the offense come to him. There sure were some glimpses of what is to come, but so far in the summer league I don't think we have seen what he is going to be like playing for us. Personally I think he's going to have a nice long career here.

This. In order to do something fast, Burke has to know what it is he wants to do in the first place. He's got enough speed. He's just feeling his way through right now, and he's playing with a bunch of nobodies.

Hate to ask this... but I couldn't catch the game.... how did Burke and Gobert look?

I only saw the end, but gobert looked nice again and Burkes looked better. He still needs to get use to playing though, he only had 2 assists.

I saw him have a great drive and finish. His footwork looked great on defense too.

I'd call Burke's performance "uneven." He was bad early; Beverley was really bothering him. Trey was committing TO's and launching up bad shots. Burke was particularly horrible on his 3's (1-6) and finished 5-15 overall with 4 TO's and 5 fouls. But he settled down and played much better later on. As Doublea mentioned, he had good footwork on defense. Gobert had another solid game. He again showed effort running the floor, setting picks and rotating on defense. He's further along than I thought. I hope Biedrins gets DNP's and Gobert gets the minutes behind Kanter.
