What's new

July 9th, Summer League Game 2: Jazz vs Rockets 1:00 PM MT

Gennesy: Jazz assistant Sidney Lowe: "He's going to be a good player. There's no need to worry about Trey Burke right now. ... We're safe."

Bill Oram on 1320 Kfan

Trey was tenative in first game, overcompensated today and shot three 3's early.

He is under 6-ft tall and is playing amoung many tall guys, more than he has ever had to before it is an adjustment.

Trey will be the starter.

Trey reminds Bill of Mo Williams. Trey is crafty, creative ballhandler, very quick, quickest guy on the court today.

Trey can get to the rim but gets pushed around. He is pleasure to watch with the ball, he is very much in control, he is a leader, he asserts himself as the leader on this team.

More Oram:

Alec wants more responsibility wants more accountability. The Jazz expectations will be Alec being the 6th man scorer off the bench, and Alec wants that responsibility, but he may not be ready.

Doubts Tinsley will be back.

Gobert is unpolished offensivly, will be a really good defensive player who will get rotation minutes this year.

Trey Burke will be a vocal leader, he is loud on the floor telling teamates what to do now. The team will need leadership.

Neto got FIBA clearance to practise and play in 3 games, but he won't join the Jazz for a couple of seasons.

Gobert (I don't know why, but he just reminds me of Gumby every time I see him) really needs to learn how to box out. Bend knees, get low, move with the guy on his back box out. Great help defender on blocks, has a smooth left hook. I think he is strong, he just does not know positioning on the court or how to use leverage properly yet. Not that I would expect him too at this stage, but that's the area I see him needing to improve on.

I thought Burke made some good adjustments in the game. I'm excited about him running the offense this year. It is refreshingly nice watching a player who has court vision. I also would not mind seeing Stockton as the #3. He plays gritty and tough.

I was also excited about Gordon Haywards comments there. It really sounds like he is taking up the vocal leadership role. I hope that translates into more assertive play this year as well. He's the vet now, now seniority to defer to.

i really do like bufford

has a clean jumper...good catch and shoot...i really like his game since his buckeyes days

i wish he gets a chance to the roster

Gobert sets a pretty good pick. See the first Trey Burke highlight. Gobert took Beverly right out the play. He puts that leg down and it's like the defender runs into a fence.

So if Tinsley isn't coming back, and Neto isn't coming over for two years.....there's definitely a back-up PG spot open. Also, if Burks comes off the bench, that means Hayward is likely the starting SG, and maybe Rush starts at SF. This will be a good chance for Rush to get his career going again.
