It isn't like Vonleh has the size of Derrick Favors or his explosiveness. Everyone wants to cite his vertical leaps at the combine but he didn't finish dunks on people's heads the way Favors does or for that matter Gordon.

However Vonleh isn't chopped liver. He has a jumper and he can rebound. I think he will be a decent defender. He looks like a good starter as a 4. For the Bosh comparisons just stop. Bosh had and has a great first step and footwork. He was a lead scorer in college and in Toronto.

Maybe Vonleh could fill a similar role as Bosh today. But that requires playing next to Wade and Lebron.
 
I think he plays a mix of the 3/4 at the next level. The days of having a 7 foot center, 6'9 PF, a 6'6 SF, a 6'4 SG and a 6'1 PG are gone. Nowadays, you play the five best players even if they don't 'fit' the stereotype.

I think Vonleh could be great on the wing if he continues to work on his midrange jumper. With Snyder coming aboard, he could be a nightmare in pick and pop situations with the right coaching.

Good post. On paper they are similar but Noah is just a bigger body that won't be moved around in the post like Marvin is. Marvin was 228 at draft time so to be fair must assume there will always be a 20 lb difference. That extra weight helps immensely fighting for rebounds and post position. It can make a player a tweener more than wingspan. And indeed Marvin has been a SF/PF tweener in this league, one that has survived though. So if Marvin is Vonleh's floor, well, it could be a lot worse.

I call BS on that Tweet. Vonleh has been working out for teams and has been very impressive. You can't believe most of what you hear leading up to the draft.

He supposedly killed it in his first couple of workouts. All indications were that he was possibly pushing his way into the top-4. So where has he worked out lately?
Could it be the disinformation is coming from Boston, LA or Sacramento, hoping to push Vonleh down past Orlando and Utah? Or maybe even Exum's agent, trying to ensure his client drafted in the top-4.?

I'm not saying we don't need to see for ourselves. I'm saying if this is true (and we will verify for ourselves), we for sure won't take him.

All that aside, I'm just wondering where the reputation for his proficiency on Defense is coming from. What is there out there that would make me believe that he would be any more efficient at defending 4's in the Western Conference than Kanter. If he is not a big defensive upgrade over Kanter, then what is the point? Is it his block and a half per game? Because that isn't remotely the same in the NBA. Shawn Bradley blocked a dozen shots sometimes in a NCAA game, but it didn't exactly translate to the NBA. I keep hearing "great two way player," but I believe we are taking that on faith, no?

I think what he's saying is that smokescreens come from all over the place. GM's, coaches, other players, agents and sometimes even the journalists themselves.

A good agent is always trying to improve his client's stock and lower his competition's stock any way they can. As an NFL guy, I still remember some of the BS pulled by Drew Rosenhaus over the years. There's millions of dollars on the line.

He jumps about 5 inches higher than him and has +3 inches of wingspan. If you watched a lot of Jazz games you know Kanter is limited by his physical attributes. He tries to contest shots, but is just not explosive or long enough to alter them. Now Vonleh could get "lost" on defense like Kanter does, won't say his IQ is through the roof or anything, but I think his defensive floor is much higher than Kanter.

Also wondering which two GM'd this journalist spoke to. Vonleh has only had three private workouts since the NY one where he was very impressive (not counting today's which happened AFTER the out-of-shape comments was made). He had to have outstanding in New York, since it was right after this workout and the subsequent things which were said by basketball personnel that caused his stock to soar. So the GM's - IF this isn't a complete BS story by a hometown reporter - had to have been from LA, Sac or Orl. I still find this VERY suspicious in advance of Vonleh's workout for his local team, the Celtics (he's from MA).

A little about Ryen Rusillo: he appears regularly on several shows on Comcast Sportsnet New England, including New England Sports Tonight with Gary Tanguay and Greg Dickerson, and is also a studio analyst for the Boston Celtics' television coverage.

Vonleh is a pure potential pick and I really don't see him blossoming into a star.

The Jazz are guaranteed one of Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Exum, and Gordon, which is awesome.

To be fair, Gordon played well in SL. Vonleh could easily also play well during his upcoming SL.

But Gordon > Vonleh for sure.
 
Let's not get carried away and remember this is summer league. U still may or may not be right. It's possible u may have to eat this post in a few months. I wanted Vonleh last year, and we still don't know how good or bad he will be due to injury last year.
