Kamala Harris for Pres

'Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has separated himself as the clear betting favorite in the race to be the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

The 51-year-old Democrat has been at the top of the oddsmakers' boards since Kamala Harris assumed the presumptive presidential nomination from the party after President Joe Biden dropped out. Shapiro was neck and neck with Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and has fended off charges from Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz
Would be a good choice.

I've probably seen 20 articles, maybe more, saying "X is the top choice." There have been 4 or 5 people who have been named as X.

I have seen 3 that really seem to have a chance and I think that really has been narrowed to 2. Walsh, Shapiro, and Kelley. I think Walsh is out though.

This (speculation on who the nominee will choose for running mate) happens every election for every candidate.

I've also seen it of both Whitmer and Newsome, early on before they dropped out, and Buttigieg (who would be a great choice in a lot of ways, but I don't know of any former secretaries who have immediately gone on to be POTUS or VPOTUS.)

OK, I looked it up. Madison, Monroe, and JQA were Sec State prior to being elected, Taft was Sec War, Hoover was Commerce, John Calhoun was JQA's VP, and was previously Sec War.

So it was normal in the early years of the U.S. but not so much nowadays.

In the early years you could be a relatively poor nobody and end up as president.
Lincoln's origin story is quite incredible.

Yeah who knows? I read they don't want to risk losing a D senator in Kelly.
This. I think that is why Shapiro will be the choice

Yeah, after some reading on the subject my money is on Shapiro. Hope they vet whoever it is extremely well. That's probably why they are taking their time.

That's one of the reasons why Pete would be a good choice - given the compressed timeframe, he's already been vetted as both a candidate and as a cabinet member. Another one is that he and his husband already have a relationship with Kamala and her husband.

Pete is awesome and the best candidate for the job..... But not the best candidate to help get enough electoral votes to beat trump in the upcoming election.

Unfortunately I agree that he is the best choice but not the best choice.

I think the magic potion for the dems going forward is going to be going with the most exciting candidate rather than the most "electable" one.
