Dr. Jones

Interesting comparison between Kanter and Terrence Jones in the Summer League. I know it doesn't mean much, but here goes;

- Minutes played were DEAD even. Both played 5 games and averaged 25.2 minutes.
- Both shot exactly 50% from the field.
- Both averaged 1.4apg.
- Kanter averaged 8.8 boards to Jones' 8.6
- Jones outscored Kanter 18.2ppg vs 10.4ppg.

Means about as much as a double rainbow, but it's slow, so..

I watched most of both player's games. Terrence Jones looks like a complete player-minus a consistent jumper. He knows his niche as rebounder, face forward and defender. He is going to be a good NBA player.

Kanter is still just scratching the surface of what he can do. Kanter has the size to become a post option. With better positioning he could become a very good defender. Kanter still has the potential to become a great NBA player. It is unlikely at this point but there is still a real chance.

I like T. Jones but good Centers are far more valuable that face-up 4's.

Good post. I agree with all of it, except I'm possibly even a bit higher, than you are, on Kanter, still.

Sorry to pick at old scabs, but I stepped aside of most of the Kanter is a bust debates (except for a couple of sarcastic jabs). Anyway, I'm wondering why PKM is still optimistic. What did you see that gives you any hope?

kanter is going to be a beast and one of the top centers... just have some patience... we'll see in two years!

What I saw at UK. I see a guy that is now a shell of his confident self he was back then. He is very talented and will show it with minutes and renewed confidence.

he does not seem to have the right mind-set.
Gaining 20 pounds in a week or two;
declining to joing the NT?
these are really bad signs!

Very good analysis. Give Kanter a break. The kid is 20 years old and plays the most difficult position in the NBA. He's not a shot-blocker, but we can already see he'll be a good defender and a great rebounder. All he lacks is an offensive game. Or rather, just a couple of altermatives to the up and under. Shouldn't be that difficult for him to add a hook shot and a short jumper.

Last season was the equivalent of playing a year of college. Sixty-six games, but virtuallly no practices. So he probably got as much court time as the incoming rookies. Kanter might never become a star, but I think he'll be a solid starter in 2-3 years, especially if Favors is the one getting the touches and Kanter just has to worry about cleaning the glass and getting the ball off the double teams.

As for the NT, get over it Turkish posters. Many of the NBA stars don't want to play in non-Olympic years. Kanter was at P3 followed by summer league. So he wants a few weeks off from basketball. That's probably a good thing. Remember when Deron and Carlos played on the Olympic team? They came back a little tired. Enes...spend a couple of weeks on the beach with your honey and take a mental and physical break from basketball. Then come back ready to compete!

If he gained weight it was muscle weight. Kanter looked like he was in tip top condition. The commentator in SL even said his current weight was 268, which means he hasn't gained 20 lb's, saying he's not in the right mind set simply because he chose not to join his national team is idiotic as you don't know why.

It is more like comparing the apples and oranges. As we all know that it is always harder for centers to score than face up forwards in summer leagues or these type of camps.Forwards always attempts and keep the ball more. Also scoring depends on the passing and sharing the ball. Burks was the main option at the summer league team and all guards were in rotation so tough to feel comfortable for a center who wants to post up all time and use his strength under the rim.

I like jones but his potential is limited. He is exactly a more of power forward than small forward and for sure he's gotta gain some muscles more. I really wonder the minutes of him behind Motieujanas,Patterson etc.

The guy still hasnt played what amounts to 1 season in college in terms of minutes. He is raw, they knew he was raw when they picked him. To give up or want to throw him away is very shortsighted. He will be a beast someday. An allstar beast? I dunno.

Yes it's right that we don't know why Kanter decided not to play for NT. Because, he didn't give a **** to find time for a simple explanation. If you don't confront with the media when you said I'll join the NT, there is a possibility that "he's not in the right mind set". We want to be successful in basketball arenas, and we need our best players to achieve it. In USA you may pick up players from trees, but that's not the case for Turkey. I, for one, want to beat the USA in finals in Olympics or World Championship.
