The Twolves being able to play bonafide stretch-bigs for a full 48 minutes was huge for them in the playoffs. Now they replace their starter with Julius Randle, who's kind of a square peg.
 
T-Wolves slightly worse short term (Randle is a bum and a poor fit, but Donte is pretty good). Notably worse long term, I think Rudy walks after this next season.
 
The worst I could see that going for them is Randle tanking their locker room, but they can simply waive him. Still think the most logical path for them is to trade Randle and start Naz Reid.

But the picks are determined by the regular season standings and for the regular season the Wolves actually added some depth in DiVincenzo. It's a wash, at least for 24-25.
 
There will be an adjustment period, even if they are better.

I actually think Randle has a higher potential than KAT in a lot of ways, but it will take time.

Over the last 3 seasons Randle has shot more 3's per 36 minutes than KAT.

He's obviously no where close to the shooter as KAT, but he has improved a lot and is capable of getting hot for a season.
 
Getting Donte D on a 3 year steal contract was probably a big factor. They knew they couldnt financially keep KAT, so they got someone who can give them a good year in Randle while getting an elite bench player at a good contract. Overall kind of a mid return for someone of KAT's talent level, but he is also consistently disappointing and overpaid.

Also, that Pistons pick will probably be a decent first in the next 3 years. I dont think the Pistons will be a lottery team for 3 straight years again.

I would say it's a B- trade for the Wolves and a A- for the Knicks. Hard to say the Wolves will have a better chance to win this year given Randle's injury history and the time it will take for the team to meld with what might just be a one year rental player.

I'm really curious to see the Knicks appetite for sustaining this massive payroll if they dont win the Finals. What if they get bounced in the first round?
