I get having sticker shock, but the cap is booming. I think it's smart for teams to give these very long deals. It's hard for anyone to turn down $150M, but $150M isn't a huge anchor on a team's cap situation.

Front-loaded changes things and I would definitely try to do that.
 
The advantage the Jazz have in the upcoming negotiations is that Kessler has not made much as an NBA player yet. His rookie deal is worth just over $13 million, which obviously is an obscene amount of money, but little compared to what decent NBA players make. Kessler is due to sign a contract that would guarantee to secure him and several generations of his current and future family. Is he willing to risk that all going to waste haggling over a few million while risking a career ending injury?

This argument would work if the Jazz were negotiating with Walker himself but he has an agent that negotiates for him and agents are all about squeezing out every last dollar because that's their job.
 
Jesus. 30M for a guy who’s a below average center who would be a 4th-5th option? Count me out. Draft a rookie in the 20’s who plays defense. Sign a couple vets. Do something. But spending 80u

Get mediocre vets at the vet minimum then. Because that’s what he is. Mediocre. And there’s always a handful of guys out there for a super cheap price tag.
 
Can we afford to sign Malik Beasley? Or Beasley and Collins? I’d be curious how well a starting lineup of Collier-Beasley-Flagg-Lauri-Kessler would do?

Maybe trade Key, one of Sexton/Clarkson and our pick in the 20’s to move up. Keep the other one of Clarkson or Sexton, and bring that player, Collins, Hendricks, Williams off the bench.

Is this feasible? Sorry, I’m on the **** Key train. Kid has bum body language.

What's the point of bringing Beasley in now? Given his defensive ability, it's better to just use BRICE. And I think it's very difficult to get a top pick with the assets you mentioned. Conversely, if we get such an offer, we'll ignore it, right?

The Nerlens Noel-fiasco when his agent made him turn down the Mavs' offer is still too recent to reject an offer of a 100 million guaranteed for a player like Kessler IMO.
 
Looking at the average salary per contract of the non-star starting centers (excluding old guys and rookies) there seem to be 2 groups:

1. Centers that can shoot 3-pointers or pass: Sabonis (47), Sengun (36), Porzingis (31), Hartenstein (29), with the exception of Wendell Carter (18) and Turner (19).
2. Traditional defensive centers only - Allen (28), Claxton (23), Capela(22), Zubac (20), Poeltl (20), Adams (13), Gafford (13) , with the exception of the multi-DPOY Gobert (37) and the overpaid Ayton (36).

Kessler is definitely in the second group and he is unlikely to become a 4-time DPOY, so realistically his value is somewhere in the 20-28 million range.
