Kevin Pelton (analytics guru) would have taken Exum #1

Lets call a spade a spade. You don't ever make a value based decision like that to pass up tier 1. They thought Exum was tier 2. All we can hope now is they were wrong :)
I agree. It gives comfort to know it was the Orlando Magic not the Spurs or OKC. I mean the Magic's GM Hennigan is one of the worst GMs in the league. He recently signed 31-year old Frye to a $32m contract, and jobless cancer Ben Gordon to $4.5m/year. And before that he traded valuable Arron Afflalo for a bag of chips! If was DL, I would keep good friends with this guy and pick his pockets once the opportunity arises ;)

DL was once on the radio saying he thought the Dwight to Lakers trade was one of the most lopsided trade the NBA has ever seen.

Yes, very good point. The only PF's projected to be on the board at #12 were Saric and Payne - and maybe McBuckets (a tweener). Saric wasn't coming over and perhaps they just didn't see Payne as lottery value. They probably fell in love with Payton and had Ennis as a backup plan.

Still think it was a mistake. You don't pass up a Tier-1 player for Tier-2.

Well, the following is a RUMOR and have not been confirmed by anybody who is even close to being credible, so I woudn't take it seriously, but some folks in Orlando say that Exum had a workout with the Magic and didn't do well at all. They say they put him up against Oladipo and Exum was completely overmatched. They probably decided that this makes Exum is not tier 1. Which for me is ridiculous. 1-on-1 is about the worst way to evaluate a PG and especially when you match a physical specimen with 3 years of experience against college-level and NBA-level competition like Oladipo against a boy who's played only against high-school kids so far. What makes Exum tier 1 is precisely what you see in a full 5-on-5 game(first step in the context of a game, use of picks, passing, vision, court awareness, feel for the game, etc.), and what you can not see in a 1-on-1 game. What makes his tier 1 is not his current use of his physical attributes, but rather the potential of his physical attributes after several seasons of coaching and learning at the highest level of basketball.

If you can expound, then you should probably do so.

It's just not a big deal.. but when Exum worked out for ORL, his shot wasn't falling for like 15 straight and he got frustrated and just went hard at the basket and dunked the ball hard.. but without being told to do so. So someone from the magic said to victor, go show him how its done (and meant the shootaround). But VO decided to be funny, and with Exum just standing under the rim, he just went and dunked on Dante. The joke became that Victor 'showed' Dante.... and Dante didnt play along with the little funny too well... which may have played into our hands.

Ha, awesome if true and that helped us nab Exum.

Thanks for sharing...now I can't wait for the first matchup of the season with Orlando. It'll be Exum's turn to "show how it's done"...
