Kevin Pelton Thinks George Hill Will Get $20 Million in FA

I just dont think we can afford to give Hill 20 million if we have any belief that Exum will be a player for us. I dont want to go into Exum's last year of being on a rookie contract and still have questions as to what he can be. Hopefully Exum can start balling out before the year ends to make it obvious he needs to be the starter next season.

I'll bet you any Pacers fan wishes they had Teague AND Hill. Hill can play either guard spot. His role is secured, regardless of Exum.

Probably won't ever have to worry about him going over 6% body fat, so that's good for five years down the line.

We have to resign Hill.

People need to get over this pipe dream that Exum will become an all-star.

Let the Millers pay some tax. Or, get a pick-heavy haul for a player in order to get below the line. Simple.

Seriously... this **** ain't rocket surgery. Sign Hill and give him all the money. All. Of. It. Losing Hill would likely reduce the chance Hayward stays. If Exum is awesome then Hill can play both guard spots off the bench and be really valuable.

Moving from hill to Exum next year is a step back. He's made progress but Hill is really talented and has developed a great feel for the game. He's one of this teams leaders. Tbh with the cap implications and such I'd rather extend Hill this year than Favors.

This is not an acceptable outcome.. I've long been banging the run the salary cap up drum but it must be done with extreme precision.

It's a joke bruh... just pay the man. He's critical to our success. If Exum is worth a max then do that at some point and reconfigure. Hill and Exum would both be tradeable. Keep as much of the band together as possible for as long as possible. It's really not that hard of a decision at this point.

Aren't they 3-1 without him? and what kind of success are you talking? beating the warriors in the playoffs?

right now on the books for next year(presuming the 2 1st rd picks are signed for a combined 4mil) there's like 74MM accounted for 11 players. Which leaves room for a nice raise for Hayward.

So 20 mil for George Hill plus players to fill in the rest of the roster will put the Jazz in the highest luxury tax bracket.

With Favors going off the books unrestricted and Exum and Hood due big raises the next summer it's going to get too expensive..

I'm sure the Jazz acquired Hill knnowing he was capable of earning a nice raise.a 2½X raise is too much though.. he turns 31 during the playoffs and should be asking for 4 years.

To me it's obvious the team is going over the cap but I wouldn't be looking to jump 2 feet into the highest bracket next year.

I dont think George Hill is critical to our success. I think having good PG's (or specifically, guys who are starter level and not Mack/Neto) is critical to our success. There are other good PG's in the NBA that won't cost $20 million. Unless he wants to take a pretty hefty discount to extend, there is no reason to extend him.

Names?

Also can those guys play great defense and switch between both guard positions... what about intangibles, experience, and will they come here.

Also which one of those guys can we use our current cap space to extend and get a discount on in future years?

Extend him if possible. Figure out the other stuff later.

Also San Antonio is likely our biggest competition to retain him... I would really prefer he stay with us than go to a team we are likely fighting with for playoff positioning for the next three or so years.

If we sign hill we move Burks or JJ in the offseason. We can move off of some money our payroll isn't set in stone. Using some our 10M this year to pay him now will get us a slight discount the next three years and add certainty for Hayward negotiations.

3-1 is nice without him but let's not pretend it was pretty and that we faced a murderers row.

let me just say now that all of your questions will stump him. Hard.

Also word on the street was that Hill got into Hood and helped inspire him in the Orlando game. Hill is a grown up and vocal leader... we have been lacking that.

It's easy to think of these guys at stat robots and say we can get something better for cheaper... kind of thinking may have been one of the reasons we were able to get the guy in the first place.
