Agreed, and the 6th man role is perfect for him. He can be both the backup 2 along side Collier and his backup at pg. it’s not a coincidence he’s playing his best stretch of basketball in his young career. He's 45 and 37.8 over his last 10. I think there are reasons to believe that his efficiency will improve if he isn't the lead playmaker so often.

I think Garland is his best track with a decent likelihood.Kind of a fun chart to look at. Here are some career trajectories of players that I think Key can turn into on the high end (Murray and Garland) and some players that I think we can expect in a more median outcome (Monk and Simons). Though famously, if Key is Mitchell who even is he????

If that ever happens, then it will be more of an issue. Now it doesn't matter, at all. Then it would be the difference in winning or losing some important games.I think when the team is more fully formed with good defenders in the role players positions, Keyonte's defense will be less of an issue. I also think he's a 6th man, but not as a negative.
Plenty of great teams do just fine with a weak link at the guard position. If that ever happens, then it will be more of an issue. Now it doesn't matter, at all. Then it would be the difference in winning or losing some important games.
I agree. But that is an important caveat.Keyonte really doesnt get enough credit for his passing. He's going to be an elite passer for a score first combo guard.
Who's the awful defender on any of the current contenders?Plenty of great teams do just fine with a weak link at the guard position.
I'm fine with going to the finals.Who's the awful defender on any of the current contenders?
It was Luka with the Mavs - and it mattered massively.

Yep, the league is prioritizing offense even more than ever, even with all the talk of 3andDs. Look at the all-star teams- some MAY be decent defensively, in a 'by the way' sort of mattering, but it only really matters if you're a center.Kyrie on the Mavs
Garland on the Cavs
Brunson on the Knicks
Murray on the Nuggets
Morant on the Grizzlies
Pritchard on the Celtics
Not saying these guys are as bad as Keyonte currently is, but there isnt any reason why Keyonte cant improve. It's basically unheard of for a team to not have at least one guard on the roster who doesnt have to be hid on defense.
