What's new

Kings open to trading 8th pick.

Now if they'd do #23, #35, our first next year top 5 protected, and rights to Tomic, then I'd do it.

Core four plus picks is off limits for me, unless wiggins is guaranteed.

5 and 8 in this draft is too much to give up for 2 or 3 honestly.

I think so too.

The year we traded up to get Deron was the same scenario. There were four projected stars. The Jazz traded up 3 spots and gave up the #6, the #27 and a late first the following season, which was the 30th. Granted, we *&^%$ Portland and they should have received more value.

But no WAY in HELL should they Utah give up two or more high lottery picks to move up 2-3 spots. Kanter's value is a lottery pick. And next year's pick is likely in the 10-12 range, even WITH Wiggins. Parker or Embiid.

It's just ridiculous that people are thinking Jabari, Wiggins and Embiid are automatically the next MJ and Olajuwon.

No one's trading a top 3 to whatever we have.

And believing a top 3 would have so much of a big difference with a 5 100% is ignoring history.

And Kanter will only get better.

I wouldn't think about it.

If they could pull off that kind of trade to end up with #5 and #8, it'd be a steal. Taking two swings at top 10 players in a loaded draft should land the team at least one All-Star down the road, plus having another year of development from the Core5 and a new coach (plus his new philosophy) would make the risk worth it.

Even in the very strong West, I can see a significant improvement in this team if the bench isn't absolute crap. Offer Marvin Williams the MLE, bring Neto over and then see who steps up out of Clark, Harris, Garrett, Murphy, etc. That's a huge upgrade over last year. If both of the lotto picks end up being stars then you're in a position to compete down the road and you build around them.

Not sure who the Kings have that would cause cap issues for them, but I'd look at taking on salary too if it's needed to make the deal. Can't be worse than what they took on last year.

I agree, 5 and 8 could get you Smart and Gordon or Exum and Vonleh or Smart and Randle etc. The distance between 1-4 and 5-8 isn't that big. I would be extremely happy if the Jazz had the 5th and 8th pick but I don't really want to give up Kanter yet but I would consider it.

Almost no chance if dropping to 5 - almost certainly in the top 3.
Andrew Wiggins
Jabari Parker

Small chance they could slip to 5
Joel Embiid - health
Dante Exum - competition level

Likely to be there at 5 (and worth the pick)
Noah Vonleh
Julius Randle
Aaron Gordon
Marcus Smart

That's eight players (all of whom likely would have gone at least top three in 2013 if they were in that draft.)

Give me any two, plus the Core5 and a new coach. . . I'd be pretty excited about that team moving forward. Would take some of the sting of missing out on the top 3 out of the tank season.

Everyone's favorite trade asset (except me and a few others), is Kanter. Even when it doesn't work. Like at all.

This is SAC guys. Who is their one sure-fire piece? Oh yeah, Demarcus Cousins. Now does a frontcourt of Kanter and Cousins make sense? No, they would want Favors, as he is a rim protector, and already inked to a favorable deal. Kings won't be contending next year, so why would they want to pick up Kanter for a year and then have to pay him without seeing much improvement in their team.

As far as players go, Favors, Burke, and Gobert are our only assets on the team, as their contracts are favorable to trades. Nobody wants your unproven player unless they are sure he'll fit well, or he has multiple years on their contract. Alec and Enes don't fit the requirements to fetch their true values, and Hayward can't be traded until we ink him.

Exactly. Kanter and/or Burks don't have any value. The idea for trading assets is to buy low and sell high. I'd rather have Kanter work with Favors, Malone and Gobert this offseason and see how he does next year - healthy, happy and playing for a new coach. I still have faith in him. I'd rather dangle next year's pick instead of either Kanter or Burks. I don't think we'll get enough back to justify giving up on them yet. Same thing with Burke. Core5 needs a new coach and then to add one or two more pieces to the puzzle from the draft.
