KJ Martin Thread

Seems like he will be an actual Jazz player.

He's a defensive minded athlete who was thought to have some potential for the Rockets before getting moved before they made their return to prominence. Think he kind of got a raw deal in Philly and is better than he was allowed to show.

Start the KJ Martin hype!

I like the pickup - especially with how the roster is currently constructed and how they ended up getting him. Hope he shows something, but after NAW & Ochai. . . I’m not too worked up. More defense is always nice though.

Agreed. Not sure he sticks, but I also don't have any issues giving him a legit shot.

I think getting him was just generally a good piece of business because he's paid less than Tucker and has the NG which makes it flexible in the off season as well. As far as him as a player, not the worst flier. He's basically an undersized C on offense, but it's not that hard to envision him in small ball lineups with some of the guys we already have on roster (Lauri, Collins, Flip ect).

His season highs in 2020-21 and 2021-22 were both against the Jazz, according to Wikipedia. 27 points in his rookie year, 20 in the second year. The 27 were his career high until he scored 31 against the Grizz in 2023.

Hope we can get a view on KJ from @Tony Jones (since he's been on the Sixers beat this year) at some point (here or elsewhere) once Tony's feeling better (and hope Tony's soon able to get over his illness).

it's low volume, so grain of salt and all that, but in 24 games, his TS% this year is 68%. and he's still only 24 - seems like he's been around forever.
Yeah, the stats this year are really pretty good.

I think KJ probably maxes out as somewhat of a low usage, low-minute rotation piece with great efficiency. I don't think he's super skilled, but if he can stick to doing what he does well very efficiently, he probably has a long-term role in the league.

That's about how I see it.

Sixers were caught fibbing about Caleb Martin's injury in their trade with Mavs. KJ is also recovering from an injury; wonder if there are any surprises regarding how soon he might be back healthy?

KMart SR on the trade that happened to Detroit. Wonder what he thinks of him being on Utah.

Let's go back to Summer 2004.

KMart Sr. was setting up a trip to come to Utah to discuss a contract with the Jazz (he likely would've signed) KOC then cancelled the trip and signed Boozer instead to a massive offer sheet.

KMart Sr. also gives a lot of praise to John Stockton. He seems to be an consummate professional.
