Knight's work out video with Kings

Knight is already a much better shooter than Harris.

Devin Harris: 44% FG career, 42.2% FG last season (NBA)
Brandon Knight: 42.3% FG (college)

Devin Harris: 80% FT career, 83% FT last season (NBA)
Brandon Knight: 79% FT (college)

They also shot the same percentage from the college three (37%).

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't understand why you would say that Knight is a "much better" shooter. Can you explain?

I thought maybe Knight got better as the season went on, but I checked his last 5 games and he shot 32%. In the 5 games before that he shot 34%. It seems like he got progressively worse.

I know he had some Sundiata Gaines moments, but so did Sundiata Gaines.

I think Knight has greater upside than Harris, and will reach his potential. I also believe it will take him a couple years of adjustment. I'd take Knight in the 6 - 8 range ... but wouldn't be 'upset' if the Jazz decided to take him at three, just because I wouldn't.

.

Nicely put.

He looked like he had gotten bigger since the NCAA tourney. He looks like a good all around player still. He isn't going to be a dominating player or an all-nba player. But he looks like a good starter for a long time.

His set jumper is a little low and in front of him but it isn't a big deal because it naturally becomes a higher release when he fades away.

I dont understand why you are comparing Devin Harris's career stats vs a 19 year old who only played 1 season in college. When you compare freshman stats, you clearly see Knight is better than Harris in ever single category. Even as a freshman, Knight averaged more assists than Harris in his last college basketball season.

I didn't mean the comparison as such a negative thing, I like the kid because he's got so much more potential to be better than Devin Harris. But you can't deny the similarities..However I think he is more of a sure bet to be a solid starter in the NBA than a lot of guys in this weak draft, so I think you can feel good about taking him at #3.

For me, it's Knight or Kantor at #3. After I bagged on Hayward, I'll trust that KOC will see what he needs to see to make his pick. I'm really starting to think those two will be the best two players out of this draft. They might not have the talent or hype, but at the end they will have the best careers, which is good for Utah. KOC just needs to figure out which one will be the best for Utah.

I was responding to Zerol's claim that "Knight is already a much better shooter than Harris." That's why.

Comparing their freshman stats, Knight averaged twice as many turnovers, half as many steals, a third as many blocks, and fewer points-per-shot. He also had a lesser Offensive Rating, Effective FG%, True FG%, and FT rate (that is, Devin got to the free throw line more often per shot attempt).

I don't believe that constitutes being "better than Harris in every single category."

I'm with you. The odds of Knight being a better player than Harris are slim. We have Harris under contract 2 more years, and could extend him if he is a good fit. Harris has about 3-4 prime years left before age generally sets in.
There is no dire need to find a future superstar PG, its all Deron Williams nostalgia.

I agree. People feel the void left by Duron and are pouncing on the first decent looking replacement, even if he isn't the right fit. It's the same with rebound girlfriends. Eventually you realize why you started dating them. Best to be patient. Don't be so eager to fall in love so soon. We've got Harris until the right one comes along.

How many assists was Devin Harris averaging his freshman year? 1 assist? His assist-turnover ratio was below 1. Knight has the potential to way better than Devin Harris. Harris is inconsistent and injury-prone. You don't want a PG that is inconsistent to lead the Jazz down the stretch of the playoffs..This is a point guard driven league. Big Al tried to carry the team after the D-Will trade and we did god awful. Drafting Kanter will probably do worse than good because he is stealing minutes from Millsap, Jefferson and Favors. Watson is an old point guard and we have no depth at shooting guard. Raja Bell and CJ Miles are inconsistent and you guys expect Jimmer to lead the back court with his three point shooting. Keep living in a fairy land.

Knight reminds me of Jrue Holiday who will probably have a break out season next year. Just because your a combo guard doesn't mean you can't learn to fit in an offense. Nash, Holiday, Billups, even freaking Wade were all combo guards. They are all great passers. He is athletic enough to create his own shot and he can shoot from the perimeter which we deeply need.

All of the above statements are demonstrably false.

That's not necessarily a flattering statement..

In fact I'll go further in saying that it was detrimental to your argument..

Wow it was 1.1 huge difference. Harris his junior year averaged 4.4 while Knight averaged 4.2 his freshman year. Harris averaged 1.8 his freshman year...I love how you guys compare Harris and Knight's stats in college and say well He can't be better than him because of his college stats. Not true at all
